๐ DEAD WASP NEST? SHOULD YOU REMOVE IT? ๐
Once the wasps have gone, you might think the job is doneโฆ but is it? ๐ค
An old wasp nest is made from papery wood fibres, so it doesnโt automatically become a pest problem. However, nests can contain dead wasps, insect remains and debris that may attract scavenging insects, depending on the conditions and location.
๐ชฒ Why consider removing an old nest?
โ
Removes accumulated dead insects and debris.
โ
Reduces the chance of attracting scavenging insects in suitable conditions.
โ
Allows the area to be inspected for other pest activity.
โ
Gives you peace of mind that the nest is no longer active.
๐ Will other wasps move into the old nest?
No. Wasps donโt normally reuse an old nest, although a new queen may establish a new colony nearby if the location is suitable.
Our advice? If an old nest is accessible and in a loft or roof void, removal can be worthwhile โ particularly if thereโs a build-up of debris. Not every nest needs removing, but itโs worth assessing the situation properly.
