Planning lodged! Following the success of our affordable housing project at Waggon Road, Ayr, developed together with and completed in 2022, we have recently designed proposals for a vacant site directly opposite the development. Working in partnership with Ashleigh, the development will be delivered for Ayrshire Housing and the social charity Hansel Alliance, and will provide additional affordable residential accommodation with associated amenities.

The design and massing is proposed to be harmonious with the existing development, utilising similar forms and materiality, with the aim of extending the regeneration of the street towards the New Road intersection.

Planning submitted! Working in collaboration with our client the Kirkconnel Parish Heritage Society our project brief was to provide a local archive and visitor's centre, by repurposing a vacant property. This space will aid KPHS' pursuit to preserve and retell stories from the cultural and natural heritage of the parish, through showcasing their impressive collection.

The proposal is identified in a wider portfolio of projects included in the Borderlands Town Investment Plan, with the aim of improving the heart of the village by taking community ownership of vacant buildings.

We are excited to be engaged with this project which has strong community values at it's heart, and will have a significant impact on the regeneration of the local area.

Last night we had a great time as we celebrated our official office opening alongside clients, consultants and friends. Now that we are settled into our wonderful new studio space it was fantastic to mark the occasion. 

Thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate with us! Thanks for the lovely food! And a special mention to Stewart Bowman who was on hand to share his knowledge and delicious whisky with our guests!

We'd like to wish a warm welcome to Andrew Hadden, who joins the Denham Youd team as an Associate.

Andrew is a chartered architect with experience of working across a range of sectors and on projects of varying scales. He is the current President of the Glasgow Institute of Architects and has also undertaken the roles of Vice President, Convenor of Architecture People + Places, and Convenor of Glasgow Urban Design Panel. He has a post graduate degree in Advanced Sustainable Urban Design and is a believer in teamwork and collaboration to deliver the best outcomes.

Outside of work Andrew enjoys spending time with family and friends, and in the past he has spent a lot of time traveling including an Interrailing trip across Europe and a round the world backpacking adventure.

Part 3 success! Congratulations to Ryan Dyer, who recently passed his Part 3 exam to register as a fully qualified architect. 

Ryan brings a wealth of experience to the team working across various sectors in projects based in Scotland, Jersey and Jamaica. Since joining Denham Youd, Ryan has applied his knowledge to many projects notably Barlia Football centre, delivered last year. 

This is a great achievement and an important milestone, which is so well deserved following a lot of hard work and focus. We look forward to see you continue to thrive.

Planning lodged for new Padel Courts!

We’ve been working closely with and design four covered courts and a clubhouse, bringing one of the fastest growing sports to South Ayrshire.

As part of the wider Railway End Development at Somerset Park, this opens up an exciting chapter towards creating a new hub for the sport and the local community.

We rounded off January with a Jamaican themed team evening, hosted by our colleague Ryan, who hails from Jamaica.

We were treated to some excellent traditional dishes, accompanied by drinks from Jamaica as well as another island tipple from . The night continued with a quiz and presentation, where we learned about the geography, culture and history of Jamaica, alongside a few competitive games of table tennis!

A great night was had by all, and Ryan has proven he’ll be a tough act to follow for the next team social.

This year Denham Youd moved into our new studio, marking an exciting milestone for the practice and the culmination of our team’s hard work and ambition. We celebrated with a lovely team evening out, reminiscing on the past year and looking forward for what the year ahead has in store!

On behalf of everyone at Denham Youd, we would like to wish all of our clients, consultants, and colleagues a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Our office closes on 24th December and we will return on 5th January.
