Decking upgrade completed.

The old timber decking and balustrades had reached the end of their life, so the whole area was stripped out and rebuilt.

New pressure-treated timber framework protected with decking tape, finished with premium smooth timber decking boards, alongside new steps, balustrades and handrails.

A big improvement while keeping a natural timber finish that suits the garden.

Featheredge fencing and a new oak handrail finished in Thurlestone.

A pretty good spot to be working, overlooking Thurlestone Rock.

The oak handrail works particularly well here — simple, natural and a nice contrast against the existing metalwork.

The details matter:

Bench design and layout are just as important. Getting the heights right, ensuring your feet are positioned correctly in relation to the heater stones, and ensuring your head is the right distance from the ceiling all have a huge impact on comfort and performance. These are the details that transform a good sauna into a truly great one.

Correct insulation, properly designed air gaps, and correctly installed vapour barriers are absolutely critical. They ensure the sauna heats up quickly, holds its heat efficiently, and creates that perfect, consistent löyly (steam) when water is thrown on the stones. Without these fundamentals, even the best heater and materials can’t perform at their best.

Great couple of days at Pennywell Farm building these double gates and fencing.

Recently completed large composite decking in Kingsbridge. By using plastic pedestals, taping all the joists and using composite boards with hidden screws just should last for years.

Recently installed handrail down a steep slope with a big drop on one side. My all the trickier by the ground being pure bedrock. We had to overcome this by drilling into the bedrock and fixing threaded bar with chemical fixing to then thread the posts on top. A challenge but the a great result.

Love doing these batten fences, always look great using PSE timber. This fence was built on top of an old wall so we resin fixed threaded bar to attach the post shoes, giving it a really sturdy base.
