🔥 ANOTHER FLAT ROOF TRANSFORMATION COMPLETED IN DOSTHILL, TAMWORTH! 🔥

Our team at RST Midlands recently completed this garage roof replacement in Dosthill, giving the homeowner peace of mind with a brand-new, professionally installed roofing system. 🏡💪🏼

🔍 THE PROBLEM…

💦 The existing felt roof had been leaking in several places and had reached the end of its life.

⚠️ Beneath the old felt was chipboard decking, which needed replacing before a new waterproofing system could be installed.

Rather than simply covering over the problem, we made sure the job was done properly! 👌🏼

🔨 HERE’S HOW WE TRANSFORMED IT…

🔵 STEP 1 – STRIP IT BACK
We removed the old, failing felt roof and stripped away the existing chipboard decking.

⚫️ STEP 2 – BUILD A SOLID FOUNDATION
We installed brand-new 18mm OSB3 structural, moisture-resistant roof decking, creating a strong, reliable foundation for the new roof.

🔵 STEP 3 – INSTALL THE UNDERLAY
Our qualified roofers fitted a 3mm self-adhesive vented underlay, designed to provide a high-performance base layer while helping to manage moisture within the roofing system.

⚫️ STEP 4 – THE FINISHING TOUCH
We completed the roof using a premium 4.5mm Casali Dermabit Black Mineral Cap Sheet, supplied by Quality Roofing Supplies Ltd.

All cap sheet joints were carefully staggered from the underlay joints below, following good roofing practice to achieve a durable, watertight finish. 💪🏼

We recently completed this conservatory roof replacement for a customer in Tamworth.

⚫️ The customer had previously employed another company to remove the original polycarbonate conservatory roof and install a Guardian warm roof system.

🔵 Unfortunately, the existing roof pitch was too shallow for the plastic roof tiles that had been installed. This allowed water to pe*****te the roof covering, eventually causing the OSB decking beneath to become saturated and sag.

⚫️ Our team stripped off the existing plastic roof tiles and breathable membrane, exposing the water-damaged 9mm OSB decking underneath.

🔵 The damaged decking was completely removed and replaced with new 18mm OSB3 structural roof decking, providing a strong and suitable base for the new waterproofing system.

⚫️ Our qualified roofers then installed Casali Stripstick 3mm Self-Adhesive Vented Underlay, providing a high-performance waterproofing layer while helping to manage moisture within the roof build-up.

🔵 Our team stripped away the old roofing system, revealing the original tongue-and-groove timber decking beneath.

What a scorcher of a week it’s been so far! Despite the soaring temperatures, our team has been hard at work completing this domestic flat roof replacement on a rear extension in Appleby Magna. 🏠

The existing GRP roof had been suffering from leaks, and the homeowner decided it was time for a complete replacement.

Upon removing the old roofing system, we discovered that the plywood deck had severely delaminated and deteriorated. In our opinion, this was caused by a build-up of condensation due to inadequate roof ventilation.

To ensure a long-lasting solution, we removed all damaged plywood and installed new OSB3 structural moisture-resistant decking.

⚫ New black GRP edge trims were fitted around the perimeter.

🔵 A 3mm self-adhesive vented underlay membrane was installed to help reduce future condensation issues.

⚫ The roof was then finished with a premium 4.5mm Casali Dermabit Black Mineral Capsheet supplied by Quality Roofing Supplies Ltd.

🔵 All perimeter details and upstands were completed using the same high-performance system for a fully watertight finish.

The main reasons are:

* It is packaging, not part of the roofing system – The tape is only there to keep the roll tightly wound during storage and transport.
* Can melt under the torch – If left on the roll while heating, the tape adhesive and backing can melt, burn, or contaminate the bitumen.
* Can affect the lap area – Fragments of tape or adhesive residue can become trapped beneath the membrane, potentially creating weak spots or preventing proper bonding.
* Improves handling and rolling – Removing the tape before positioning the roll allows the membrane to unroll smoothly and evenly.

A common installation practice is to:

1. Position the roll in its correct location.
2. Cut and remove the tape wrap.
3. Unroll and align the membrane.
4. Re-roll as required for torch application.

Some contractors cut the tape once the roll is in position to stop the membrane springing open during handling, but the tape should not be left in place during torching.

If you’re asking from a manufacturer’s or warranty perspective, the strongest justification is that any packaging material left beneath or within the roofing system can interfere with adhesion and is not part of the tested waterproofing assembly.

⚫️The extension was being built by a local builder who had built a warm roof construction.

🔵Once the roofing insulation and boards had been fitted our qualified roofers then applied our new base layer which is 3mm Self adhesive vented underlay felt.

⚫️We then applied our new 4.5mm black mineral Casali Dermabit cap sheet, supplied by Quality Roofing Supplies Ltd, making sure that the joints were staggered from the underlay.

🔵Our new Cap sheet is a Broof (t4) tested membrane. When it comes to flat roofs, fire safety is non-negotiable. It is the gold standard in fire performance of roofs in the UK. Broof (t4)is the highest European fire safety classification for roofs, indicating superior resistance to external fire exposure (burning brands, wind, and radiation). It proves a roof system restricts flame spread and prevents pe*******on for at least 60 minutes, ensuring compliance with UK Building Regulations.

⚫️Once the roof was ready, the builder fitted the Aluminium roof lantern.

☀️☀️🌡️🌡️😅What a few days we have had this week, it’s been hot hot hot! 😅🌡️🌡️☀️☀️

⚫️Today we finished this domestic flat roof on a house on the Leyfields in Tamworth. 🏠

🔵The roof had been leaking and the homeowner had decided it was time to have a full roof replacement.

⚫️Firstly, we had a scaffold edge protection erected to comply with the Working at Heights Regulations to allow us to work safely.

🔵On stripping off the old roof waterproofing, we noticed that the roof deck was the old Woodwool slab. Under guidance from the NFRC (Nation Federation of Roofing Contractors) this is now considered a fragile roof. It is recommended that this is either removed or boarded over.

⚫️It was decided that we fit new OSB3 structural moisture resistant boards over the top of the existing and making sure that we screwed through the Woodwool slab into the joist, giving the OSB a solid fixing.

🔵We fitted black GRP trims to the perimeter of the roof ready to accept the new torch on felt system.

⚫️Once the roof deck and trims were fitted our qualified roofers proceeded to apply a 2mm torch on underlay felt followed by our new Casali 4.5mm black mineral torch on Capsheet supplied by Quality Roofing Supplies Ltd. All edging details were also finished in the same material.

🔵Our new Cap sheet is a Broof (t4) tested membrane. When it comes to flat roofs, fire safety is non-negotiable. It is the gold standard in fire performance of roofs in the UK. 🔵Today we completed this full house reroof to a property in Tamworth .🏠

⚫️A roofer had previously knocked the customers door to tell them that the roof had issues and needed remedial works.

🔵We were called out to survey the roof and see what work was actually required. A quote was given to the customer.

⚫️It was decided by the customer that the roof needed replacing as the existing tiles were 50 years old and were showing signs of water ingress.

🔵We stripped off all of the existing tiles, timber battens and old felt, before putting in a skip for removal.

⚫️Once stripped we fitted vented eve protection trays and covered with new 165g/m2 breathable membrane and 25/50 battens.

🔵Once the roof was covered we then installed new grey Russell Grampian roof tiles.

⚫️A new dry fix vented ridge system was installed as well as a dry verge system.
