🎓 A BIG STEP FORWARD FOR SCOTT BEAUMONT PLASTERING

Today I travelled to the Tiwi Cork Training Academy to complete my specialist training — and I’m now officially a Platinum Certified Tiwi Cork Installer. 💪🏻

Tiwi Cork is a specialist system that can be used for thin internal insulation, spray applications and challenging surfaces including existing render and brickwork.

It opens up some really exciting opportunities for retrofit, heritage properties, cold walls, condensation issues and projects where traditional insulation simply isn’t practical.

I’ve put together a short video from my training day to give you a little look behind the scenes. 👇🏻

This is something I’m really excited to bring to customers across Kent.

🔥 WHEN THE PLASTER STARTS SETTING TOO QUICKLY… this could go horribly wrong!!

Today I knew it was going to be hot, so I booked in a smallish ceiling to get done before the heat became too much.

Nice and cool in the kitchen, usual prep done, Sika SBR applied to seal the ceiling, setup complete… quick drink and ready to go. 💪

I mixed up enough plaster to comfortably do the ceiling.

But then this happened… 😳

By the time I applied the first coat, the plaster had already started setting much quicker than expected.

So I quickly flattened it as best I could and applied the second coat.

Same thing again. 😬

Now, for me, this is a small ceiling. Under normal conditions, I should have plenty of time.

Did I panic? 😱

No.

Panicking would only have made the situation worse.

I let the two coats firm up a little longer and then applied a third coat, working with what the plaster was doing rather than fighting against it.

This is where experience really matters.

After years of plastering, you get a good feel for how the material is going to react and, more importantly, how to deal with it when things don’t go exactly to plan.

And the result?

Ceiling finished up spot on. 👌🏻

Another job done, and I was finished before the heat really started to bite. ☀️

Things don’t always go perfectly everyday.

It’s knowing what to do when they don’t that matters. 💪🏻
