Making the most of the autumn sunshine with several irrigation installations underway over the past couple of weeks.

A good mix of projects, with new smart watering systems taking shape across lawns and planting areas.

As always, we're taking care around established gardens and newly landscaped areas, including protecting pathways while we work and keeping disruption to a minimum.

And a special mention for Barney the Golden Retriever, who thoroughly enjoyed having a few extra people around to throw his ball!

With the lawn already being lifted, this was the ideal time to get the irrigation pipework in.

We’ve been working alongside the landscape team on this project in Sunninghill, coordinating our installation around the returfing works.

Phase one has included the main pipework, valve boxes and a 2,000 litre tank and pump system, tucked away at the side of the garden.

We’ll return once the landscaping has progressed to complete the irrigation and commission the smart system.

A good example of why it pays to plan irrigation alongside the landscaping, rather than add it afterwards.

Smart irrigation designed around an already beautifully landscaped garden.

It started with a site survey to understand the client's watering requirements across the garden. With the landscaping already established, we took particular care when installing pipework through the lawns and planting areas.

A 2,000L tank and smart controls are tucked neatly behind the shed and one detail the client particularly liked was the movable tripod sprinkler for the meadow area.

They’ve also added their own photographs to the Hydrawise app, making each watering zone really easy to identify at a glance.

Finishing up a project in Binfield, working alongside the landscaping team as the garden comes together.

Access was fairly tight on this one, so we’ve used slimline tanks that could be brought through to the side of the property without compromising the capacity needed for the irrigation & rain water harvesting systems.

With the landscaping works happening at the same time, we’ve been able to coordinate the pipework, sprinklers and dripline as the different areas are prepared.

A good example of why it helps to get the irrigation team involved while the wider garden work is underway.

And Kai seems pretty pleased with progress too.

Beneath this beautiful herringbone paving sits a 7,500 litre underground irrigation tank.

This is the first phase of a new installation, working alongside a great landscape and design team who had everything prepared for us to get the irrigation infrastructure in at the right stage.

The tank access has been beautifully integrated into the brickwork. Although once the cover was filled with bricks, it did become a four-person job to move it!

A great example of irrigation being considered as part of the landscape from the outset.

Ready for the lawn’s next chapter.

This Guildford lawn has certainly felt the effects of this summer’s hot, dry weather. With the irrigation installation now complete, the client can plan ahead for scarifying, top dressing and improving the lawn once conditions allow.

One detail that matters is what you cannot see. Our irrigation pipework is installed at a minimum depth of 30cm, helping keep it safely below normal lawn maintenance such as scarifying and aerating.

The system uses Hunter MP Rotators with smart Hydrawise control, supplied by two linked 1,000 litre tanks where access meant a single larger tank was not practical.

The sprinklers will remain off while hosepipe restrictions apply, but the system will be ready for the lawn when the time comes.

Back with an existing client, extending the smart irrigation system we installed previously to cover more of the lawn and planting beds.

The existing 3,000 litre tank and smart controls give us a good base to extend the system, with the new areas designed into their own watering zones.

With the current hosepipe restrictions, the new lawn irrigation will remain off until restrictions allow it to be used. For now, we’re getting everything installed and ready.

Also looking particularly clean in the sunshine, Will’s new van with its fresh Irrigate & Thrive decals.

A little preparation before an irrigation installation can make a big difference.

Here, ducting has been installed beneath the path before we arrive. It allows us to run irrigation pipework and control cables between different areas of the garden without disturbing the finished surface.

More importantly, it means planting areas can be connected back to the smart irrigation system and divided into separate zones. Lawns, borders and different types of planting can then be watered according to their own requirements.

It is a simple bit of forward planning that helps us design the system properly around the whole garden.

Making better use of an existing water source.

An interesting part of this installation has been bringing an existing underground rainwater harvesting tank into a new, properly designed irrigation system.

We’re connecting it to additional above-ground storage, making use of the available rainwater while adding the capacity, controls and equipment needed for automated watering across the garden.

With the hot, dry weather continuing and temperatures reaching 37°C today, it’s a timely project, although certainly a tough one for the installation team.

The recent dry weather has certainly kept us busy.

This week we've been installing another smart irrigation system, with a neatly screened tank tucked away beside the garage and an automated system designed around the garden.

The ground was rock hard, so the trencher definitely earned its keep. Looking back at the early summer photos, it's easy to see why the owners wanted a more reliable way to manage watering before next season.

A big thank you to our clients for keeping the tea station stocked throughout the week. The biscuit tin even seemed to refill itself...
