Last week we finished this flat roof in Richmond, saved from leaks and damage over the years.

We stripped the old roof back, boarded it out with 18mm OSB. Tongue and groove detailing was added where it was needed, then we capped the walls with code 5, 600mm lead for long-term weatherproofing.

The whole deck was finished in fleeceback rubber, a far more durable system than what was on there before.

While we were up there, the rotten fascias came off too... replaced with black PVC, along with new gutters for a well rounded finish.

That's where our CORC accreditation comes in. The Confederation of Roofing Contractors vets companies against set criteria... insurance, trade references, proven track record... before accreditation is granted. It's not something you can buy your way into.

This gives you peace of mind. You're not relying on a roofer telling you they're reliable, there's a third party that's already checked.

We hold this accreditation because it matches how we already work. If a roofer can't answer a straight question about their accreditation, that's worth thinking about.

Big commercial job underway in Slough this week... a block of flats for Neil Douglas Block Management and the amount of lead we've had to shift has been something else.

The crew's been stripping back the old felt roof, getting down to bare boards, installing fresh insulation, and capping the walls with 600mm lead. We're talking hundreds of kilos of lead lifted up to the team and cut to size on site... extremely heavy and skilled work.

If we were going to do a walkaround to check your roof, here's what we'd be looking at.

Cracked or loose tiles. Broken guttering. Soffits and fascias showing wear. Cracked cement on the ridges. And up in the loft, checking the felt and looking for daylight coming through where it shouldn't be.

These problems going missed can turn into bigger problems.

Once you're done reading this, head outside and do a quick walkaround. Pop in the loft if it's safe to do so and have a quick look.

Lead flashing doesn't get much attention until it fails, and by then you're usually looking at water damage, rotten timber, or a full re-roof bill instead of a simple repair.
