New job and life getting busy haven't managed to get out much... So when an evening presents itself as an option - you take it... Even if it is in a heat wave and is over 30degrees!

My plan was simple.
Sit in the heat and hope when it starts to cool the deer or foxes may come out.

Turned into a very quiet evening - not seeing anything for over an hour and a half until... This lovely buck came out at just before 10pm as it was cooling down a tad!
By some miracle, he decided out of the whole field to wander in my direction!

Wind was picking up and wasn't ideal & I could see him being unsure and wary.
Dropped on the spot at 86 yards & then proceeded the horse field dressing I have ever done in my life!

27degrees in the car ride home - a great evening with a great success but I shall be waiting for cooler weather to venture out again I think!

What a productive evening!
Arrived and got into position with the wind on my face and sun on my skin listening to the birds... And then.... The wind did a 180 & I was worried nothing would show - but in the same breath didn't want to move incase I spoked anything!

I held position hardly moving at all for a good hour and nothing. Loosing hope fast I played some animal distress sounds on my phone and waited some more (hoping the problem fox would come)

Half hour later and there was a roe buck walking down the bank on my right - I get on the sticks admiring it but not planning on taking the shot straight away & low and behold... A fox runs right behind it, wait, a second fox chasing the first!

Go time.

Tracking the first and ranged him at 130 yards and he stopped at the bottom of the bank... 💥 Fox down!
Waited 5 minutes and the second fox appeared again looking about to see where the noise came from... 💥 Second fox down!

What a result!
But it's not over yet - the roe buck is still presenting a shot! 💥

From loosing hope in the evening to three shots being made in pretty short succession - an eventful evening indeed!

Land owner was concerned about the fox & the neighbour is doing lambing so an ideal result!

Was planning on sitting and waiting for a fox that had been causing some trouble and leaving the roe bucks for the time ...

But... came across this one with a spike for an antler so when he presented a safe shot, I took it there and then - really chuffed to get him of the ground before the rut and looking forward to making some more burger mince!

Found the bullet from the last roe! Pretty cool indeed and mushroomed well!🍄

Unfortunately....

They were bloody nice so we will have to go through the faff again and make them in the future! 🤤

Also made scotch eggs & some school cake!

Managed to get out a few weeks back to do some ferreting - very interesting to see how it's done && as a result, made so...

Also managed to get out last week just before the roe doe season ended and was fortunate enough to come across this lovely girl! She came out with a buck close behind and wandered the field for 10/15 until she disappeared through the fence into a neighbouring property.... Half an hour later, she returned and was actually heading my direction! Quartering slightly but perfect placement and down she went on the spot.

Esee belt knife doing the business also! Rabbit to deer - very ergonomic and perfect size!

After such a wet start to the new year, finally got out for a wander and successful email with the good ol HW80!
