When we’re manually scraping a roof, we’re getting a proper look at what’s underneath all that moss.

Cracked tiles.

Loose ridges.

Failing pointing.

Things a quick blast from a distance might not reveal.

Imagine paying someone to clean your roof and they don’t even notice it’s falling apart. 😂

2️⃣ Because your roof isn’t a DRIVEWAY. 💀

Some roof cleaners genuinely think blasting tiles with high-pressure water is the answer to everything.

Yes, it’s quicker.

Yes, it looks satisfying.

But on unsuitable roofs, high pressure can damage surface finishes, disturb vulnerable tiles and force water into places it shouldn’t go.

Congratulations, you’ve cleaned the roof. Hopefully it’s still waterproof. 😭

3️⃣ Because removing moss is only HALF the battle. 🚨

This is where the £3,000 pressure washer brigade might want to look away.

Once the heavy moss has been carefully removed, we apply a suitable biocide treatment to help tackle the remaining biological growth and slow regrowth.

Because making a roof look clean TODAY and helping it stay clean for longer are two different things.

A pressure washer might win the race. That doesn’t automatically mean it’s won the job. 💀

I’m convinced half the roof cleaning industry thinks removing the moss means the job’s finished. 😂

Scrape the roof.

Brush the tiles.

Take a few before-and-after photos.

Collect the money.

And completely forget about what’s still growing on the roof. 💀

Here’s what some roof cleaners conveniently leave out…

Just because you can’t SEE the moss anymore doesn’t mean all the biological growth has disappeared.

That’s why we don’t just scrape a roof and call it a day.

We carefully remove the heavy moss by hand, clear the gutters and then apply a suitable biocide treatment.

Because the treatment is what helps tackle the remaining algae, lichen and microscopic growth that scraping alone can leave behind. 👀

And here’s the bit that’s going to upset a few roof cleaners…

A roof looking clean on the day doesn’t automatically mean it’s been properly treated.

Biocide isn’t magic, and results depend on the roof, product and conditions, but appropriate treatment can help slow biological regrowth.

Imagine spending £10,000 on roof cleaning equipment just to get embarrassed by a £5 scraper 😭👇

The roof cleaning industry is going to absolutely HATE this one. 😂

Apparently removing moss from a roof now requires an industrial pressure washer, a van full of machinery and a qualification from NASA.

Meanwhile, we’re removing YEARS of moss with a tool you could buy from a hardware shop. 💀

And the funniest part?

Some roof cleaners genuinely think doing the job FASTER means doing it BETTER.

“Could’ve jet washed that in 20 minutes mate.”

Brilliant. And?

A roof isn’t a driveway.

High-pressure washing on unsuitable roofs can disturb damaged tiles, wear away certain surface finishes and force water into vulnerable areas.

We prefer carefully scraping the moss by hand, brushing down the tiles, clearing the gutters and applying an appropriate treatment afterwards.

It takes longer.

It’s harder work.

And it doesn’t look quite as impressive as turning up with £10,000 worth of machinery. 😂

But since when did expensive equipment become more important than actually knowing how to clean a roof properly?

And before the pressure-washing professionals start having a meltdown…

Yes, some roofs can be safely pressure washed using the correct methods.

But owning an expensive jet washer doesn’t automatically make your method better. 😭

One bit of moss and suddenly your roofer’s recommending a £15,000 new roof 😭👇

I’m convinced some roofers see a bit of moss and start planning their next holiday. 😂

“Yeah mate, the roof’s had it.”

“Tiles are getting old.”

“Wouldn’t bother cleaning it.”

“Probably best to replace the whole thing.” 💀

Meanwhile, we’re literally scraping the moss off with a handheld tool.

No ripping perfectly serviceable tiles off.

No convincing the homeowner their house is about to collapse.

No turning a straightforward roof clean into a five-figure invoice.

Just a bit of elbow grease and someone who actually knows what they’re looking at.

And here’s what might upset a few people…

Not every old-looking roof needs replacing. 👀

Moss doesn’t automatically mean the tiles are beyond repair.

A dirty roof doesn’t automatically mean it’s failing.

And a roof that’s been there for 40 years doesn’t automatically need another £15,000 spent on it.

Sometimes it needs a proper inspection, a careful clean and a few repairs.

Other times, replacement genuinely is the right answer.

The difference is knowing which one the customer ACTUALLY needs.

But apparently suggesting a £500 repair instead of a £15,000 replacement is bad business nowadays. 😭😂

Right then, roofers…

1️⃣ Because your roof isn’t a DRIVEWAY. 💀

If your entire roof cleaning technique involves pointing a high-pressure jet at tiles until they look clean, you might want to stick to patios.

High pressure can strip surface finishes, accelerate wear and disturb already damaged tiles.

Making something look brand new doesn’t mean you haven’t damaged it. 😭

2️⃣ Because water is supposed to run OFF your roof, not be blasted UNDER it. 😂

Roof tiles are designed to shed rainwater.

They’re not necessarily designed for someone to fire concentrated high-pressure water underneath the overlaps.

Get the angle wrong and you could be forcing water into vulnerable areas.

Imagine paying someone to clean your roof and ending up with water in your loft. 💀

3️⃣ Because owning a £3,000 jet washer doesn’t make you a ROOFER. 🏆😭

This is the one that’s going to upset people.

You can buy the most expensive pressure washer on the market tomorrow.

Doesn’t mean you know how to spot a cracked tile.

Doesn’t mean you understand roof construction.

And it certainly doesn’t mean you know when a roof is too fragile to pressure wash.

A bloke with a £5 scraper who understands roofs can be worth more than someone with £10,000 worth of cleaning equipment.

We’d rather manually scrape the moss, inspect the roof as we go, clear the gutters and apply an appropriate treatment where needed.

Yes, controlled pressure washing can be appropriate on certain roofs.

But treating every roof like a patio because it’s quicker?

That’s not expertise. That’s taking shortcuts. 😂

Apparently removing moss requires a NASA space mission now 😭👇

I’m convinced the roof cleaning industry has completely lost the plot. 😂

£3,000 pressure washer.

£2,000 gutter vacuum.

£900 scaffolding.

Another £4,000 on equipment nobody can pronounce.

Meanwhile we’re sat on a roof with a £5 BRUSH. 💀

No spaceship.

No fancy machinery.

No pretending we’ve invented some revolutionary new technology.

Just a roofer, a brush and a bit of actual hard work.

And here’s the bit that’s going to upset a LOT of roof cleaners…

Having £10,000 worth of equipment doesn’t automatically mean you know what you’re doing. 😭

We’d rather manually scrape the moss, brush down the tiles, inspect the roof as we go and make sure the gutters are properly cleared.

Then apply an appropriate treatment to help tackle the remaining biological growth.

Because there’s a massive difference between knowing how to CLEAN a roof and actually understanding how a roof WORKS.

Congratulations Dave, you’ve had 25 years to learn that a roof isn’t a driveway. 🏆😂

Of course specialist equipment has its place, and proper safety measures and access equipment are essential.

But buying the most expensive gear doesn’t automatically make you the best tradesman.

Some of the best roofers you’ll ever meet have less equipment than the average window cleaner. 😭

When did half the roofing industry become TERRIFIED of actually getting on a roof? 😭👇

I’m convinced some roofers would order £2,000 worth of scaffolding just to retrieve a football from a gutter. 😂

Remember when being a roofer meant actually getting up there and doing some roofing?

Now apparently you need:

£900 scaffolding.

Three site visits.

A risk assessment longer than the Bible.

And a bloke standing on the driveway telling everyone it’s too dangerous. 💀

Meanwhile, we’re up here getting stuck into the job.

No unnecessary drama. No inventing problems. Just getting the work done.

And before the health and safety brigade arrive in the comments… 🚨😂

YES, working at height is dangerous.

YES, proper safety equipment and precautions are essential.

And YES, some roofs absolutely require scaffolding.

But there’s a difference between taking safety seriously and automatically turning every straightforward roof repair into a massive construction project.

Being a good roofer isn’t about taking unnecessary risks. It’s about knowing how to do the job properly AND safely.

Why are roofers so scared to get on a roof nowadays😂👇

I’m convinced half the roofing industry has forgotten what actual hard work looks like. 😂

A homeowner asks for their roof to be cleaned and suddenly they’re being quoted for scaffolding that costs more than the job itself.

“Can’t do that off ladders mate.”

“Health and safety mate.”

“Full scaffold needed mate.”

£900 before a single bit of moss has even been touched. 💀

Meanwhile, we’re up there scraping years of moss off by hand, tile by tile.

No blasting the roof with a jet washer because it’s quicker.

No pretending a pressure washer is a substitute for knowing what you’re doing.

Just proper manual scraping, checking the condition of the roof as we go and getting the job done.

And before the comments start…

YES, scaffolding is necessary on plenty of roofs. Height, pitch, access and the condition of the roof all matter. Nobody should be cutting corners with safety.

But the idea that every roof-cleaning job automatically needs hundreds or thousands spent on scaffolding?

Come on. 😂

At this rate, some roofers will be ordering scaffolding to change a lightbulb.

Right then, roofers…

One broken tile. Somehow your roofer needs £900 of scaffolding and a small mortgage to replace it 😭👇

This might upset a few roofers, but not every tiny repair needs turning into a massive job.

Broken tile out.

Correct replacement in.

Check it’s sitting properly.

Job done. 😂

Yet somehow a homeowner calls about ONE damaged tile and five minutes later they’re hearing:

“Scaffold will be about £900 mate…”

“While we’re up there, your ridge could probably do with doing…”

“Actually, have you thought about a new roof?” 😭

Obviously there are roofs where scaffolding or other access equipment is absolutely necessary, and sometimes one broken tile can reveal a bigger issue.

But if it’s genuinely one tile that can be safely accessed and replaced, why are we trying to turn it into a construction project?

Sometimes the best roofer isn’t the one who gives you the biggest quote.

It’s the one who tells you when the problem is actually simple.

Right, roofers… this should be peaceful 😂🍿

If your roofer jet washes roofs, find a new roofer 😭👇

Yep, we said it.

A roof is not a driveway and we genuinely cannot understand why blasting tiles with high-pressure water has become a normal way of “cleaning” one. 😂

“But it’s so much quicker!”

Exactly. That’s the point.

Quicker for the bloke doing the job doesn’t automatically mean better for the roof.

We’d rather manually scrape the heavy moss, brush everything down, clear the gutters and actually get eyes on the roof while we’re working across it.

Cracked tile hiding underneath? We see it.

Loose ridge? We see it.

Dodgy pointing? We see it.

Something that needs attention before it becomes an expensive problem? We see it.

Meanwhile Dave’s halfway down the street because his pressure washer finished the job in 45 minutes. 😭

And before the comments start:

“I’VE JET WASHED ROOFS FOR 25 YEARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM.”

Congratulations mate, your medal’s in the post. 🏅😂

High pressure can be unnecessarily aggressive on the wrong roof, particularly where tiles or finishes are already vulnerable.

Does scraping take longer? Yes.

Is it harder work? Yes.

Would we rather do that than treat someone’s roof like a patio?

Every single time.
