Awards season is well and truly underway, and we’re delighted to be heading into this year’s Altrincham & Sale Chamber of Commerce Awards as finalists in two categories! 🏆

We’re in the running for Business of the Year and the Community Impact Award, recognising both the growth of ABC+ Warranty and the contribution we aim to make within our local community.

We’re also pleased to be sponsoring the Service Beyond the Call of Duty category, celebrating those who go above and beyond in the work they do.

After having such a great time at last year’s awards, we’re looking forward to another brilliant evening with the Altrincham business community.

What if a building doesn’t have to reach the end of its life just because its original purpose has changed?

From former mills becoming homes and workspaces to historic buildings being adapted for modern needs, there are plenty of examples of places being given a second chapter rather than starting again from scratch.

It’s an approach that feels particularly relevant during World Green Building Week, where this year’s theme is about creating buildings that are ready to respond to changing needs.

Designing for adaptability can help properties remain useful for longer, while reusing existing buildings can offer an alternative to demolition and replacement where it is practical to do so.

Perhaps, then, "new" doesn’t always have to mean newly built. Sometimes, it can mean newly useful ✨

We’re so excited to share that our Managing Director, Adele Reid, has been shortlisted for the 2026 Women in Construction Awards in the Business Owner category!

Out of an incredibly strong field, Adele has been named among just seven finalists from across the construction and built environment sector.

For us, this one feels particularly special.

Adele has spent years building ABC+ Warranty, putting in the hard work behind the scenes, supporting her team and always looking for ways to do things better. But what we value most is that, despite everything she has achieved, she has never lost the personal qualities that make her such a wonderful person to work alongside.

She cares about people. She notices the small things. She celebrates other people’s successes and is always willing to put in the extra effort when someone needs her.

So to see her recognised alongside six other incredible women in the industry is something we're incredibly proud of.

The winner will be announced on Thursday 29th October 2026 at the Women in Construction Awards 🏆

Can buildings store carbon? 🌱

When we talk about making buildings more sustainable, the conversation often centres around energy efficiency. But what we build with can also play a role in the carbon story.

Timber, h**p and straw are among the materials being explored for their ability to store some of the carbon absorbed during their growth.

The figures are particularly interesting, with the Government estimating that carbon storage can be around 50% higher in timber-framed homes than in masonry homes, and up to 400% higher in larger structures using engineered timber such as CLT, compared with concrete.

Of course, storing carbon doesn't automatically make a project low-carbon. Its full life cycle, from sourcing and manufacture through to reuse or disposal, also needs to be considered.

15 years ago, ABC+ Warranty was a small local business.

Today, we’re a growing regional team supporting clients across the construction and property sectors, with a much broader range of warranty options and a network of relationships that reaches far beyond where we started.

Along the way, our offering has developed from Structural Warranties and Architects Certificates to also include new insurance solutions, evolving alongside the industry and the needs of the people we work with.

But growth has never just been about what we offer. It’s been about the people behind it. The colleagues who have helped shape the business, the clients who have trusted us with their projects, the surveyors and professional partners we work alongside, and the many businesses and organisations we’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with over the years.

There have been new ideas, challenges, connections and plenty of milestones along the way, and while a lot has changed, the importance we place on people, relationships and doing things properly has remained at the heart of the company.

So, as we celebrate ABC+ Warranty as the business it is today, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey. Whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or joined us along the way, your support has helped make these 15 years possible 💕🥂

The council house could be making a comeback 🏠

The Government has announced £9.58 billion of funding from its £39 billion Social and Affordable Homes Programme, supporting around 73,600 new social and affordable homes across England over the next ten years.

With Greater Manchester set to receive £529 million to support around 4,400 new homes, the announcement could provide a significant boost to housebuilding across the region and create new opportunities for the wider construction sector.

But delivering more homes is only part of the challenge. As housebuilding gathers pace, quality, careful oversight and long-term protection will be just as important.

We take a closer look at what the return of council housebuilding could mean for the construction industry, and why building homes to last matters too.
