One of our site teams has just completed enclosure construction at our 3 week project for a local council, removing asbestos contaminated debris from the void behind the shops/stalls in a former market building.

Removal works to begin on Tuesday following a satisfactory smoke test which will be independently witnessed by the client appointed analytical contractor.

High pressure water can damage the tiles or sheeting, which could disturb and release asbestos fibres that can lead to lung disease and cancer when inhaled.

To work with or around asbestos, you must have appropriate training, and some work must be carried out by a licensed asbestos contractor.

Left alone and in good condition, the risk from asbestos is low, but exposure to asbestos fibres can cause lung disease and cancer.

If you’re renovating a property built before 2000, be sure to have conversations about asbestos with tradespeople before they get started to prevent it from being accidentally disturbed.

If you’re planning on new windows or doors this year, particularly if the work disturbs roof eaves or soffit boards, be aware that they could be made of asbestos-containing materials.

Asbestos board was commonly used in older properties for roof eaves so speak with your tradesperson about the risks of asbestos before they start work as you may need to get them sampled.
