⚡ Here’s why older fuse boards can’t be ignored.

Customer called after half the house lost power.

Half the consumer unit (mains board) had tripped out — something I see quite often with older boards.

After proper fault finding, I traced it to damaged and ageing cables hidden behind the socket.

Not visible from the outside… but definitely not safe.

Fault repaired. Power restored. ✅

Because the property is half newer wiring and half older wiring, I’ve recommended a partial rewire to bring everything up to a safe, consistent standard.

⚠️ Failed RCD – Potential Fire Risk

Customer lost all socket power.

On inspection, the RCD had failed and there were clear signs of overheating and melting inside the consumer unit — something that could have become a serious fire risk.

Upgraded to a new RCBO consumer unit with surge protection for safer, more reliable protection and minimal disruption if a fault occurs.

If your board is older or hasn’t been checked in years, it might be time for an electrical health check.
