Our new playground in the shadow of the Tower of London.
We’ve recently completed Tower Hill Playground, working with the City of London and landscape architects LUC to design and build a new play space in one of London’s most historic settings.
The design began with a collaborative workshop exploring three themes inspired by the surrounding city. A dragon, a cityscape and a castle. Following public consultation, the castle concept was selected and developed into an abstract timber structure inspired by the towers and fortifications of the nearby Tower of London.
Alongside the main structure, we designed and delivered a wider play landscape incorporating climbing trails, swings, roundabouts, inclusive play equipment, seating and planting.
It was also one of our more technically challenging projects, with archaeology, existing trees, underground services and extremely restricted access all influencing the design and construction.
A great example of how play can respond to its surroundings without becoming too literal, creating something that feels part of the landscape rather than simply placed within it.
