Everything in it's place...

If you have a strip of narrow border that is distinct and perhaps needs a little lift and also not adjoining other flower beds - then Helianthus × laetiflorus - know as a Perennial Sunflower could be a great summer / autumn colour showstopper.

It dances in a slight breeze, it's very bright and colourful and promotes a cheery disposition in the garden and can grow quite tall. It's slender and airy. The downside is that it spreads it's rhizome roots very efficiently - so it really does need to be contained. It would work well at the edge of a driveway or up against a wall, even planted in a graveled area or locations when you want to create a feature from a blank and boring vertical space - like a fence or side of a garage.

It's beautiful and troublesome :-)

Gardening Tip of the Day

If you are planting into the ground, either a new plant, shrub or tree or transplanting them from somewhere else, make sure the roots have lots of water - this will reduce plant stress and help create optimal conditions for growth. Prior to planting, simply place the item into a bucket of water ahead of time and give the roots a good soak.

A touch of nostalgia...

This photo goes back to when I first started in 2017 on the journey of creating "Fabulous Alfreton Gardens".

This natural stone patio needed a full restoration - missing stones, pernicious weeds, holes, loose stones, most of the grouting had failed and was green with algae and it was unsafe underfoot.

It was a challenging project to undertake and after the initial clean up, mortar work and grouting this space was made usable and inviting again.
