Their garden was small. Small enough that they’d written the idea off before they called us.

3m x 2.7m is the footprint. It sounds tiny until you’re stood in it. Sliding doors down one side, a full-height window, and enough floor for a proper working room rather than a corner with a desk shoved in it.

She’s a therapist, so it had to work for clients as well as for her. Somewhere quiet, warm and separate, with a door that isn’t the front door of the house.

And they’ve still got a garden. That’s the bit people don’t expect. A room only takes over the plot if it’s been designed off a standard drawing instead of around the space you’ve actually got.

Finished in Thermalwood, a thermally treated timber that weathers beautifully and is built to stay outside.
Nine working days on site. All that’s left is the decorating, and that’s their bit.

Half six, you’re in the gym. 💪
Half eight, you’re on the deck with a drink, 🍹watching the sunset over the hills. 🌅
Same building. One metre apart.

That’s what the canopy and the decking do. Without them, the room is somewhere you go and then come back from. With them, the end of the garden becomes somewhere you actually sit, which for most people is the bit of the garden they’ve never once used.

Inside it’s a proper gym. There’s a storeroom built into the side too, with a door cut flush into the cladding so you’d walk past it.

The garden’s not big enough for storage AND a proper room. That’s what most people assume, right up until they see this one.

Sofa and TV on one side. A hidden storeroom on the other, tucked behind a door built straight into the cladding so you’d never know it’s there. And it’s got its own access door out to the back gate, so nothing gets carried through the snug.

Same footprint most people write off as “too small” or “too awkward.”

A full house and garden build in Esher, and until the very end, you’d have no idea what it is about to become.
Black metal cladding, bronze glazed aluminium doors, a full window running the width of the front. Dual cladding, because one finish wasn’t going to cut it on this one.
The outside’s finished. The 🤫 company moves in next for the fit-out.
This is what fully bespoke actually looks like. Not an off-the-shelf garden room, but a room built around exactly what someone wanted.

Most garden offices look the same from the front. This one's hiding something.

Everyone thinks a garden room means giving something up. Losing the shed. Blocking the side return. Cutting off the back gate.

This build didn't give up anything.

One side is a proper room to switch off in: sofa, TV, a dartboard for when people are round. The other side is a generous storeroom, hidden behind a door built into the cladding so you'd never spot it. And it's got its own access door straight out to the back gate, so everything they need to store still moves in and out easily.

It's not a request we get every week, but it comes up. And it's the kind of thing an off-the-shelf room simply can't do.

It's not often we get to see one of our rooms after the customer has moved in and truly made it their own. So being sent these photos was a proper treat.

By day it's a gym. By night it's where the family ends up. This one's kitted out with a Speediance Gym Monster 2, a clever bit of kit that packs a full cable machine into a small footprint, so you get a serious workout without needing a huge space.

And with the air con keeping it cool, it's where they'll be tonight watching the football. In the customer's own words:
"Since we've had the gym/room it's been fantastic, and we're even in there tonight because of the air con to go watch the telly!"

That's the thing about a garden room. It's rarely just one thing. Gym in the morning, somewhere to watch the match in the evening, a place to switch off in between.
Fully insulated, so it's comfortable all year, not just in summer. And the lighting in the borders? That was the landscaping that came after. It's a room designed to sit right at the heart of the garden.
