Customer Report: Gas Fire Issue

Location: Colne

Issue: Customer reported that their gas fire was shutting off randomly during use.

Initial Action: Advised customer over the phone to switch off the gas fire and refrain from using it.

Engineer Visit: Conducted on the same day.

Actions performed: Inspected the flue.
Completed a full service on the gas fire.

Findings: Fault identified with the Oxypilot.

Resolution: Oxypilot replaced and tested.

Carbon monoxide monitor installed in the room.

A new black PVC soil pipe fitted and the old cast iron one taken down and removed on this newly purchased rental property in Colne.

Also a new PVC gutter fitted on the kitchen extension to replace the leaking cast iron one with the rain water pipe being moved away from the back door.

A 13 year old Gold Combi was serviced today ready for the winter weather.

Included in the service was new combustion chamber gasket, repressurised flat expansion vessel and recalibration of the Gas valve.

I've been to a today that hadn't been serviced in 10 Years and it showed.

-Dead moths everywhere!
-Heat exchanger manky! -Expansion vessel flat!
-condensate trap full!
-gas valve Co2% way out!

These issues combined would have had a huge effect on the efficiency of the boiler.

After I rectified all these issues the boiler is running like it was put in yesterday and will hopefully last another 10 years.

Thought I would post some updates after a long time away from Facebook.

I'll start with these twin 40kw Baxi duo tec that were serviced over Christmas. One of the boilers was found to have a split on the heat exchanger that was leaking products of combustion. The boiler was made safe and baxi were contacted as appliance was still under warranty.
