Going away this Bank Holiday? 🌞

Whether you're heading to the Big Tribute Festival, escaping Aberystwyth for the long weekend or making the most of the Bank Holiday, take a few minutes to check your electrics before you leave.

Switch off what you don't need: Where appropriate, switch off or unplug unnecessary appliances and devices. This can reduce standby energy use and means you're not leaving equipment powered unnecessarily while the house is empty.

Know what needs to stay ON: CCTV, alarms and security lighting may need to remain powered to protect your property while you're away. Be careful not to accidentally switch them off.

Don't ignore warning signs: Unusually hot sockets, burning smells, buzzing or repeated tripping can be signs of an electrical fault.

Large-scale EICRs underway at The Royal Pier, Aberystwyth. 🔌

Last week, Aiden and Steve were carrying out EICRs across The Royal Pier, testing the safety and condition of the electrical installation throughout the building.
This included the arcade, nightclub, snooker hall and multiple bars.

For a venue of this size, electrical testing needs careful planning. Some areas needed to be cleared for power downs, but for a busy business like The Pier, disruption during normal opening hours could have affected both customers and revenue.

To reduce disruption, Aiden and Steve carried out the testing outside of normal business hours, starting their days at 6am to help keep the venue operating safely and smoothly.

A lot of caffeine was consumed along the way! ☕

EICRs are vital for commercial premises because they help identify deterioration, damage, defects or other electrical issues before they become more serious.

Thanks to planned electrical testing, The Pier can have greater peace of mind that its electrical installation has been properly inspected and any issues can be identified and addressed.

Landlords, when is your next EICR due? 🏠

Did you know that rental properties in Wales are required have an electrical inspection condition report (EICR) every 5 years, or sooner if your previous report specifies an earlier re-inspection date?

For landlords with multiple properties, this can be tricky to keep a track of, with many booking in after the report has already expired.

To avoid this we recommend booking in for an EICR well in-advance of the expiry date. Not only does this allow for better management, it ensures that you stay legally compliant.
