🚐 FROM EX-POLICE VEHICLE TO CAMPERVAN!

Another one completed here at Cymru Campers 🔥

This Transit crew cab came to us as an ex-police surveillance vehicle, and the aim was to transform the rear into a practical camping setup while making the most of the space available.

We designed and fitted a bespoke pod unit incorporating:

🍳 Twin hob & stainless steel sink
🧊 12V compressor fridge
💧 Fresh & waste water storage
🔋 Split-charge relay system
🔌 230V mains hook-up
⚡ 230V sockets & 12V electrics
🗄️ Plenty of integrated storage

We love projects like this because not every campervan needs to be a full ground-up conversion.

We can work with the van you already own and build a setup around how you actually want to use it.

Whether you’re looking for a complete conversion, a bespoke pod, electrical upgrades, solar, windows, carpet lining or just a few jobs to finish your van — give us a shout. 🔧🚐

A few more pictures of this Crafter 👀

A few more shots of this VW Crafter MWB conversion we completed in collaboration with Caddy Campers.

There’s loads of little details in this one that are easy to miss in the main pictures. We’ve tried to make the most of every bit of space, whilst keeping everything practical and looking smart.

The bespoke sink pod with folding worktop, dedicated toilet area, overhead lockers, kitchen storage and the pull-out drawer in the walkway all make the space really usable.

We also went for a grey, black and gloss finish with the slatted panels and plenty of LED lighting to give it a bit of character.

Really happy with how this one came together, especially taking the customer’s original ideas and turning them into a finished camper.

VW Crafter MWB Camper Conversion 🚌🏕️

A recent bespoke VW Crafter MWB conversion that we collaborated with Caddy Campers on, bringing a customer’s own layout ideas to life.

The project initially started with the electrical side of the conversion, installing a full lithium leisure system, 400W solar, DC-DC charging, 3000W inverter and mains charging, for an off grid set up.

From the customer’s initial sketch, we developed the interior around their ideas and built a practical camper that makes full use of the available space.

The finished conversion features a bespoke kitchen area with stainless-steel sink, fresh and waste water containers, twin induction hob, 800W microwave, grill/air fryer and 12V compressor fridge.

We also incorporated a dedicated toilet area, overhead storage lockers, LED strip lighting, flexible reading lights, mains and inverter sockets, along with plenty of additional storage throughout.

The sleeping arrangement is built around a versatile single/double bed system, allowing the space to be changed depending on how the van is being used. There’s generous storage underneath the beds, along with a pull-out drawer underneath the central walkway to make use of every available bit of space.

The interior was finished in a clean grey, black and gloss finish, with the slatted wall sections and blue ambient lighting adding a distinctive touch to the finished camper.

A great project from taking a customer’s initial sketch and turning it into a fully functional, bespoke camper conversion.

VW T5.1 LWB Camper Conversion — Completed 🖤

A few weeks ago I shared an update on this long-wheelbase T5.1 after stripping the existing conversion back and starting again.

Today, I’m very happy to say this one is finished and ready for its next adventures. 🚐🏕️

This van came to me with an existing camper conversion that was functional, but tired and in need of a serious refresh. The original furniture was largely chipboard, the lining and insulation needed attention, and the overall interior was ready for a complete overhaul.

After stripping the van back, the transformation has been huge.

The finished conversion now includes:

✅ Bespoke side-unit furniture
✅ Full insulation throughout
✅ New black carpet lining
✅ New carpet flooring
✅ Re-trimmed cab headlining
✅ Leisure battery system
✅ Split-charge relay system
✅ 250W solar panel system
✅ 2000W inverter
✅ 12V/USB and 230V power outlets
✅ Battery voltage monitoring and control panel
✅ Fridge
✅ Sink and gas hob
✅ Fresh-water system
✅ Diesel heater
✅ Overhead storage
✅ TV

The new furniture has been built specifically for this van, replacing the old tired interior with a much cleaner, stronger and more practical layout.

The electrical system has also been completely brought up to date, with solar charging, leisure power, inverter, fridge, lighting and multiple charging options all incorporated into the finished setup.

From the condition it arrived in to how it looks now, this has been a massive transformation.

Another project completed, another camper ready to get out and enjoy the road. 🏕️

A huge thank you to the customer for trusting me with the van and allowing me to bring the vision together.

A little behind the scenes of the bespoke side unit we’re building for this VW T5. 🔨🚐

While many of our conversions use precision CNC-cut furniture, this particular build called for a completely bespoke unit. Every panel has been measured, cut, routed, edged and assembled by hand to create a perfect fit for this van.

It’s great to show that, whether it’s CNC-cut furniture or a fully custom build, we have the skills and experience to turn an idea into reality.

VW T5.1 LWB Camper Renovation – Progress Update

A little update on the long wheelbase T5.1 project I’ve been working on.

The van came to me with an existing camper conversion that, while functional, had definitely seen better days. The original furniture was built mainly from chipboard, the carpeting and lining were tired, and there were a few areas that needed bringing up to a much higher standard.

The first step was stripping everything back to assess exactly what I had to work with. Out came the old units, flooring, wall panels and headlining, leaving a bare shell ready for a fresh start.

From there I:

✅ Removed the old furniture and interior trim

✅ Stripped the van back for inspection and preparation

✅ Added insulation throughout

✅ Re-lined the rear of the van in black carpet

✅ Re-trimmed the cab headliner

✅ Refreshed the interior ready for a completely new layout

The difference already is night and day. The black carpet lining has modernised the interior massively and gives the van a much cleaner, factory-style finish.

I’m currently building a completely bespoke furniture unit to replace the original setup. Unlike the old chipboard furniture, the new unit is being built from proper furniture board for improved durability, strength and finish. Everything is being designed specifically for this van rather than trying to work around the previous layout.

Still plenty left to do, but it’s great to see it going from a tired conversion to something that will be much more practical and professionally finished.

More updates to come as the furniture build progresses.
