Cold weather doesn't always mean pressure washing has to stop.

Winter weather can make exterior cleaning more challenging, but the right equipment and planning can make a big difference.

Our hot-water pressure washing system helps us tackle dirt, grime, oil and other build-up when temperatures drop, making it useful for winter cleaning projects where cold water alone may not be suitable.

For commercial sites, planned cleaning can often be scheduled around operations and weather conditions to help keep areas safe, presentable and ready for use.

What does a town centre deep clean actually involve?

Earlier this year, we completed the first phase of a public realm cleaning project in Peterhead, working with We Are Peterhead ahead of Scottish Week.

The work covered some of the town centre’s busiest areas, including pavements, the main square, bandstand and footpaths.

We removed weeds, gull fouling and years of built-up grime, as well as cleaning bins, benches, streetlights and planters.

The work was carried out overnight to minimise disruption to local businesses, residents and visitors, with the project completed within a tight timeframe.

The difference was significant, and it was great to see the positive feedback from people in the town.

Does your site look like this?

It’s easy for paths, car parks and areas around a building to get overlooked.

Over time, moss, dirt and organic debris can build up, especially through the wetter months.

That was the case at this retail site in Elgin.

We scraped and bagged the moss before pressure washing the surface underneath, removing the remaining dirt and organic growth.

The difference is pretty clear.

A green, dirty and unsightly surface is now cleaner, more presentable and easier for customers and staff to use.

As we move into the wetter and darker months, surfaces can stay damp for longer, creating ideal conditions for moss and organic growth.

Getting these areas cleaned before the problem gets worse can help keep external areas looking better and reduce avoidable issues through winter.

Sometimes the jobs that are easiest to overlook can make a big difference.

Winter rain needs somewhere to go.

Blocked gutters can quickly become a bigger problem when heavy rain arrives.

Leaves, moss, dirt and other debris can restrict water flow, causing gutters to overflow and potentially leading to water running down walls, over entrances or into areas where it shouldn't.

Getting gutters checked and cleaned before winter weather sets in can help keep rainwater moving and reduce avoidable problems during the wetter months.

For commercial and public-sector sites, planned gutter maintenance can also be scheduled around normal operations to minimise disruption.

Another busy month at NEREC.

Around 8,000m² of external surfaces cleaned at the Carnegie Building.

We recently completed a large-scale exterior cleaning project at the Carnegie Building for the University of Aberdeen, working to a tight deadline before students returned for the new academic year.

The project included:

• White render cleaning around the building and internal courtyard
• Upper cladding cleaning
• Gutter cleaning around the building

Using our softwash system from a cherry picker, we were able to safely reach the full elevations and clean both the external faces and internal courtyard.

With a large building, limited access windows and a busy site to prepare for, careful planning and the right equipment were essential to completing the work on time.

Another commercial project completed and ready for the new academic year.
