Making the most of the dry spell! ☀️🧱

With how dry it’s been recently, the lawns have definitely slowed down their growth—which means it’s the perfect time to get stuck into some of those landscaping and property maintenance projects!

I just finished up a job transforming a border between a lawn and gravel drive.

Here is what we did:
🔨 Removed the old, decaying wooden sleepers

📏 Straightened up the line of the border

🧱 Pulled back the gravel and laid fresh edging stones securely in cement

✨ Pushed the gravel back for a crisp, clean finish

It’s made a massive difference to the garden, giving it a really neat, permanent edge that won't rot over time.

✨ A MAGICAL FIRST IN THE GARDEN last night! 🐛💚
​While out in the garden last night, I spotted something I have never, ever seen before in my life... my very first glow-worm (un ver luisant)!

​Seeing that tiny, bright green neon light shining in the grass was absolutely magical. As someone who spends their days working outdoors—doing ground clearing, low-level pruning, and decking—it’s a fantastic reminder of how precious our local ecosystem is here in France, and why wildlife-friendly garden care matters so much.

​Here are a few fascinating facts about these little night-lights:
•​They aren't actually worms! They are a species of beetle (Coléoptère).
• ​Only the ladies shine bright. The flightless females climb up grass stems and glow to attract the flying males.
• ​They are natural pest controllers! Their larvae feed on small garden snails and slugs—making them a gardener's absolute best friend.
• ​They are sadly disappearing. Due to artificial night lights (light pollution) and habitat loss, they are becoming an incredibly rare sight.

​Because they are getting rarer, scientists in France are tracking them closely. If you are lucky enough to spot a little green glow in your garden or on an evening walk, you can help map them! I’ve just submitted my sighting to the French national observatory.

A permanent fix for this septic system! 🛠️

Just finished up a project here in the area, replacing an old, weathered plastic edging strip around a fosse septique with a sturdy, professional concrete border.

It’s these kinds of small, detail-oriented improvements that make a world of difference to the look and maintenance of your garden.
It’s a simple change, but it makes such a difference!
