Charles Zana, architect and art lover
Charles Zana trained at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, graduating with a DPLG (extra certificate for architects and engineers). He came to interior architecture via a series of decisive encounters and founded his own practice in 1990 on his return from New York, where he spent five years working for several architects. Charles Zana now creates exceptiona

l spaces all over the world, dividing his time between house, shop and exhibition design projects, his work in his Paris practice with his team and the interior architect Richard Massol, and his art and design collection, which he shares with his friends, colleagues and clients. The studio: a place of creative exchanges
Located at the end of rue de Seine, close to the river and next to a shady public garden, Charles Zana’s studio is a serene, open-minded environment for architects and clients, dedicated to service – a word rarely associated with architecture. But everyone who enters this small courtyard on the Left Bank is drawn into an environment whose key values are culture and quality. And when they allow Charles Zana to entice them into his creative universe a beautiful story can begin. Charles Zana regularly invites art galleries to show work in his studio to create a stimulating confrontation between genres and disciplines. The team: a method, a culture
Fifteen architects, interior architects and designers work with Charles Zana on projects ranging from private houses and apartments to company head offices, shops and renovations. The team is tightly knit by its communal culture of quality and work methods enabling it to take a project from inception to completion with great fluidity. The luminous, colourful open-plan workspace, full of artworks and design objects, welcomes the visitor. Clients can sit at the long table, taking part in their project and almost becoming a member of the team when crucial decisions are taken.

The Fonds Bustamante opens in the former Sainte-Croix church in Arles, where Charles Zana Architecture reveals the building’s existing beauty through a restrained intervention that honours its history.

Following the Fondation CAB in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the project continues the practice’s dialogue between architecture, heritage and contemporary art. More than an exhibition venue, the Fonds Bustamante offers an experience where architecture, art and memory exist in quiet balance, allowing the artworks, the light and the spirit of the place to take centre stage.

The inaugural exhibition En Miroirs presents works by Jean-Marc Bustamante alongside a selection of artists across generations.

A new chapter for a historic place.

We are proud to unveil Fonds Bustamante, a new independent cultural institution in the heart of the restored 12th-century Église Sainte-Croix in Arles.

The project goes beyond transformation, seeking instead to reveal the building’s original architectural features and re-establish its presence in a subtle poetic approach. It restores architectural balance, drawing on the collective memory of those who have inhabited the site over time, while creating a quiet framework for contemporary art.

Opening on 9 July 2026, during Les Rencontres d’Arles.
