Éveha is heading to the 32nd EAA Annual Meeting!

This week, the Greek capital is hosting the EAA European Association of Archaeologists. We are thrilled to be part of an event dedicated to advancing European archaeological research, elevating heritage management, and promoting the highest scientific standards.

Cette semaine, la capitale grecque accueille l'Association européenne des archéologues (EAA). Nous sommes ravis de participer à cet événement dédié à l'avancement de la recherche archéologique en Europe, à l'amélioration de la gestion du patrimoine et à la promotion d'exigences scientifiques et éthiques de haut niveau.

[Africa]
At the end of July, the 17th Congress of the PanAfrican Association of Archaeology ( ) took place!

Hosted by Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo (Mozambique), the congress brought together professionals from across the globe—including Japan, Australia, the Americas, Europe, and, of course, Africa.

Guided by the theme "Discovering African Archaeology and Heritage Without Borders," the congress fostered rich exchanges on vital topics like heritage management and community engagement.

We are very proud that our colleague, Joseph Kovacik, was there to represent us, attend the sessions, and contribute to the debates.

Fin juillet se tenait le 17e congrès de l'Association panafricaine d'archéologie et des disciplines associées ( 2026).

Organisé par l’Université Eduardo Mondlane de Maputo (Mozambique), le congrès a attiré de très nombreux participants venus du monde entier, notamment du Japon, d’Australie, d’Amérique du Sud et d’Amérique du Nord, d’Europe et bien sûr d’Afrique.

Il était axé autour du thème “Discovering African Archaeology and Heritage Without Borders” et a ainsi permis des échanges très intéressants sur les questions de gestion du patrimoine et sur l’engagement communautaire.

Nous sommes très heureux que notre collègue Joseph Kovacik ait pu assister à ce congrès et participer aux débats.

We are thrilled to share that our colleague, Blandine Besnard, has led an educational workshop for young people at the French Institute in Jerusalem.

This initiative introduces participants to the ongoing research at the ancient Tulul Anabta site. Through hands-on learning—including the excavation of "test pits"—children are not only discovering the meticulous science of archaeology but also connecting with their rich local heritage.

A wonderful moment of sharing and discovery!

Notre collègue Blandine Besnard a animé un atelier de médiation pour le jeune public au sein de l’Institut français de Jérusalem : l’occasion pour les enfants d’en apprendre davantage sur l’archéologie mais surtout de retracer l’histoire de ce site ancien grâce à la fouille de plusieurs “sondages” !

[Nepal]
From July 6 to 10, 2026, our colleague Samara Broglia de Moura presented a paper at the 27th International Congress of the European Association for Asian Art and Archaeology, held in Ghent, Belgium.

She highlighted the results of the French-Nepalese Archaeological Mission in Mustang, co-funded by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, concerning ceramic production in the Mustang Valley in the Western Himalayas.

Du 6 au 10 juillet 2026, notre collègue Samara Broglia de Moura a présenté une communication lors du 27e Congrès international de l'Association européenne pour l'archéologie et l'art de l'Asie du Sud, qui s'est tenu à Gand, en Belgique.

Elle y a mis en lumière les résultats de la Mission archéologique franco-népalaise au Mustang, cofinancée par le Ministère de l'Europe et des Affaires étrangères (France Diplomatie), concernant la production de céramique dans la vallée du Mustang, dans l'ouest de l'Himalaya.

Our colleagues are back from the Apollonia Mission! ✨
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Vincent Michel for allowing our colleagues, Loïc Mazou and Arnaud Watel, to participate in this new field campaign at this major Cyrenaican site, under the auspices of the French Archaeological Mission in Libya (MAFL).

They respectively conducted the study of the ceramic material and the archaeological surveys. 🏺🗺️

A huge thank you to all the participants and partners for their continued trust in our expertise!

Retour de la mission Apollonia !

Merci à Vincent Michel d'avoir permis à nos collègues Loïc Mazou et Arnaud Watel de prendre part à une nouvelle campagne de recherches sur ce site majeur de Cyrénaïque, un projet porté par la par la mission archéologique française en Libye (MAFL).

Ils ont respectivement mené l’étude du matériel céramique et les relevés archéologiques.

Un grand merci à l’ensemble des intervenants et partenaires pour la confiance répétée dans nos expertises archéologiques.

Avec l’amélioration des conditions sécuritaires, très heureux que la mission archéologique française en Libye (MAFL) puisse reprendre progressivement ses missions de terrain, Apollonia (2024), Latrun (2025) et Leptis Magna (2026). Pour les 50 ans de la MAFL, 1976-2026 (cf. exposition à Insti...

[Great Britain]
Throughout the month of May, our colleague Marie-Paule Jung undertook a research stay in London, supported by a mobility grant from the Robert Anderson Trust, awarded within the framework of her PhD on medieval settlement in Nubia and Sudan, led under the direction of F.-X. Fauvelle (UMR 5608, CNRS).

This stay provided her with the opportunity to consult unpublished archives held by the Sudan Archaeological Research Society and accessible at the British Museum, to explore the London collections, to exchange with numerous specialists, and to attend the W. Y. Adams Colloquium.

Back in the office, Marie-Paule is now making full use of this valuable material to further her doctoral research.

Many thanks to the Robert Anderson Trust for its support, to the Sudan Archaeological Research Society, and to the Department of Egypt and Sudan team at the British Museum for their warm welcome, as well as to all those met during the course of this stay for the richness of the exchanges.

Tout au long du mois de mai, notre collègue Marie-Paule Jung a effectué un séjour de recherche à Londres grâce à une bourse de mobilité du Robert Anderson Trust, obtenue dans le cadre de sa thèse consacrée à l’habitat médiéval en Nubie et au Soudan, réalisée sous la direction de F.-X. Fauvelle (TRACES, UMR5608 du CNRS).

Ce séjour lui a offert l’opportunité de consulter des archives inédites conservées par la Sudan Archaeological Research Society et accessibles au British Museum, d’explorer les collections londoniennes, d’échanger avec de nombreux spécialistes et d’assister au W. Y. Adams Colloquium.

De retour dans nos bureaux, Marie-Paule met désormais à profit ces données précieuses pour faire avancer ses recherches doctorales.

Un grand merci au Robert Anderson Trust pour son soutien, à la Sudan Archaeological Research Society et à l’équipe du Department of Egypt and Sudan du British Museum pour leur accueil chaleureux, ainsi qu’à toutes les personnes rencontrées au cours de ce séjour, pour la richesse des échanges.

[Zanzibar]
June 5, 1873, marks a major milestone in East African history. Under the leadership of Sultan Barghash bin Said, Zanzibar officially abolished the slave trade, leading to the permanent closure of the Stone Town market, one of the key hubs of the Eastern slave trade at the time.

As part of these commemorations, Joseph Kovacik joined students and speakers for a solemn ceremony. The event was held on the very site of the former Stone Town market, now restored as a memorial and religious building.



[Zanzibar]

La date du 5 juin 1873 représente un jalon majeur de l'histoire est-africaine. Sous l'impulsion du sultan Barghash bin Said, Zanzibar a officiellement aboli le commerce servile, entraînant la clôture définitive du marché de Stone Town, l'un des centres névralgiques de la traite orientale à l'époque.

Dans le cadre de ces commémorations, Joseph Kovacik s'est joint aux étudiants et aux conférenciers pour une cérémonie solennelle. L'événement s'est tenu sur les lieux mêmes de l'ancien marché de Stone Town, aujourd'hui réhabilité en mémorial et en édifice religieux.
