TENCENT TOWER IS URBAN
Friendly and welcoming, it enhances Guangzhou.
Committed to playing its own specific urban role, it impacts the neighborhood and aspires to embellish it by bringing life to the plaza, opening up a perspective on the Pearl River and accommodating a genuine commercial street on its own site.

TENCENT TOWER IS A RIVERSIDE TOWER
A large deck hosts large recreation terraces over the riverbank while inclined façades capture reflections of the river. A twin spectacle happens from the inside looking out over the panorama, but also the other way round, with people going up and down inside this vertical city.

TENCENT TOWER IS A LANDSCAPE
Trees launch an attack on the Tencent Tower from their standing position on the large-scale terraces.
This is a soaring landscape, highly readable, rising up from the Pearl River and foregrounding trees and shrubs, with light filtering through the workspaces and recreation spaces.

TENCENT TOWER IS ALL ABOUT INNOVATION
Houses, greenhouses and ateliers are built on the large-scale terraces, acting as so many different villages.
New systems are installed in all the offices and work places, configured individually.
The contrasting scales in the architectural typology gives a staggered profile that is all about the joy of being alive.

TENCENT TOWER IS ECOLOGICAL & HEDONISTIC
Genuine sustainable architectures are those people take real pleasure in preserving, and so they tend to become models of sustainable development. Here, Tencent Tower combines business with pleasure.

TENCENT TOWER IS LIGHT-FILLED
The façades are 100% glass, revealing variations in texture, interplays of geometry and shimmering possibilities.
Using every possible colour, offering inspiringly dappled sunlight and creating streaming figurative images.

TENCENT TOWER IS VIVID, COLOURFUL, CHANGEABLE
Imagined as a world of sensations and surprises, adapted to each and every individual, varying with the time of day.

At the Pudong Museum of Art, four key buildings and more than one hundred objects illustrate the approach, vision, and methodology of Ateliers Jean Nouvel.

“MAP’s exhibition spaces host a show dedicated to the French architect – 2022 Domus guest editor, 2008 Pritzker Prize laureate, and author of some of the most recognisable buildings in contemporary architecture.”

Dentsu Tower
Tokyo, Japan
1998-2002

Vanishing architecture

The building features a boomerang-shaped office floor plan and a ceramic-printed glass façade with vertical and horizontal gradations.
Its design responds to the site's historical context – the former location of Tokyo's first railway station and the nearby Hamarikyu Gardens, a former shōgun's estate – by integrating a contemporary architectural expression with the surrounding urban and historical landscape.
