🚀 Back from the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2026) in Antalya, Türkiye!

Our colleague Kyunghwan Kim represented DLR at this year's congress, sharing his research and exchanging ideas with colleagues from across the international space community.

He contributed to the congress in three roles:

🔹 Research Presenter | Presented his PhD research on human factors and biomechanics for lunar agricultural systems.

🔹 Invited Panelist | Beyond Rations: The Challenge of Dining in Deep Space, contributing perspectives on human factors and lunar infrastructure design.

🔹 Session Chair | Space Architecture (E5.1), alongside participation in several committee meetings.

A valuable week of scientific exchange, collaboration, and discussions on the future of human space exploration.

It was a pleasure to attend the SpaceCHI Conference held in Cologne, Germany, on June 23–24.

✨ Excited to attend the 54th International Conference on Environmental Systems (ICES) in Prague, Czech Republic, from July 13–17!

I’ll be presenting part of my ongoing PhD research at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), titled:

🛰️ “Developing Experimental Design for the Lunar Agriculture Module – Reduced Gravity Simulator (LAM-RGS)”

This research explores simulation-based evaluation methods for human performance in lunar agricultural environments under partial gravity.

Did you know that Cologne, Germany, is home to the Lunar Facility, a joint research center of ESA and DLR? As part of my PhD research on Human Factors and Behavioral Performance for the Lunar Agriculture Module (LAM) at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), I visited the ESA Astronaut Training Center (ESA-EAC) for a collaborative research discussion. It was a highly fruitful and productive exchange! Stay tuned for more updates on space research and lunar exploration.

독일항공우주센터(DLR)는 **2015년부터 Lunar Agriculture Module (LAM)**을 개발해왔으며, 2022년 남극에서 EDEN-ISS 미션을 성공적으로 수행한 후, 2023년 그 모듈이 독일 브레멘으로 돌아왔습니다.

이제 우리는 연구를 더욱 확장하여 DLR-ESA(유럽우주국)의 Lunar Facility에서 EDEN-LUNA 프로젝트와 LAM-Ground Test Facility를 진행하고 있습니다. 또한, 저의 연구 분야인 **인간공학 및 행동 퍼포먼스(HFBP)**까지 연구 범위를 넓히고 있습니다.

EDEN 팀 대표로서, 저는 2025년 3월 일본에 초청되어 NASA, ESA, JAXA 및 일본의 전문가들과 함께 우주 농업 모듈에 대한 비전을 공유할 예정입니다.

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) has been developing the Lunar Agriculture Module (LAM) since 2015 and successfully conducted the **EDEN-ISS mission in Antarctica in 2022, before returning to Bremen, Germany.

Building on this success, we are expanding our research with EDEN-LUNA at the Lunar Facility of DLR-ESA (European Space Agency) and the LAM-Ground Test Facility. Additionally, we are broadening our focus to Human Factors and Behavioral Performance (HFBP) which is the core of my research.

As a representative of the EDEN team, I have been invited to Japan in March 2025 to share insights on space agriculture modules with experts from NASA, ESA, JAXA, and other leading researchers at the Chiba University in Japan.

Looking forward to exciting discussions and new collaborations for the future of space exploration! 🚀

Kim Kyunghwan was hosted by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute. This was his third . During the seminar, he provided insights into the lunar and Martian environments, discussed risk factors, and presented alternative design options for rovers to Dr. Jang's team. They are researching an unmanned rover equipped with a robotic system for movement and exploration on the Moon and Mars. Last year, when Mr.Kim was working at the German Aerospace Center in Bremen, he introduced them to the research facilities. He is grateful that they have maintained contact, sharing their inspiration for space.
After the seminar, they discussed together next task to collaborate their team.

Mr. Kim kyunghwan at the -Leap Space System Inc. is happy to join the Korean Moon base project team as an advisor. This project is lead by Construction Technology Research Institute. We will share his knowledge obtained in Europe, especially experience from German space center to make it happen altogether.

It was a great pleasure to present my 2 papers at the Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Science (KSAS) 2023 in Jeju island. It was a fruitful moment to discuss together with experts from space organisations, universities, and big enterprises about future collaborations for Korean Moon exploration. We were also talk about to make a Korean Moon exploration projects and plans.

Ce fut un honneur de présenter deux articles à la Société aérospatiale coréenne qui s'est tenue sur l'île de Jeju du 19 au 21 avril 2023. Ce fut un moment précieux pour nous car on a discuté ensemble avec les experts des agences gouvernementales, des entreprises et des universités concernant aux plans d'exploration lunaire, développement de l'espace dans un avenir proche, et future collaboration.
