Housing in Almería, Spain
Award-Winning Projects 2026
We’re delighted to share our winning proposal for the development of plots R2, R4, R5 and R6 within the Barrio Alto urban masterplan in Almería.
The jury recognised the project for its fragmented urban composition, the material expression of its envelope, and the functional quality of the homes. Rooted in the local residential typology, the architecture is designed to integrate naturally into the existing urban fabric.
A plinth in locally sourced limestone anchors the buildings to the street, while the upper levels are defined by a restrained rendered façade and a subtle rhythm of brick screens that filter daylight and protect residents’ privacy.
The dual-aspect apartments maximise spatial flexibility, encourage a seamless relationship between inside and outside, and provide natural cross-ventilation for improved environmental performance and year-round thermal comfort.
