Design Hotel Levi combines contemporary architecture with traditional materials, creating a distinctive presence rooted in its surroundings.

The hotel has received further international recognition with four honours at the 2026 Haute Grandeur Global Awards: Best Design Hotel globally, alongside Best Activity Hotel, Best Boutique Hotel and Best Lifestyle Hotel in Finland.

What began as a drawing exercise during Bring Your Child to Work Day at our studio became a permanent part of Männistö Daycare Centre’s architecture in Kuopio.

Three children, then eight years old, created illustrations that inspired the design of the building’s graphic concrete façade. The drawings were incorporated into the original architectural proposal and later brought to life in collaboration with artists Markku Kolehmainen and Riikka Takalo, preserving the children’s creativity as part of the building’s identity.

Seven years later, the young artists returned to see their drawings still embedded in the façade. Their story is featured in a recent Graphic Concrete article by journalist Reetta Lukka, exploring how children’s perspectives can shape architecture and leave a lasting impression.

Männistö Daycare Centre was designed by PAVE Architects and developed in collaboration with Hoivatilat.

We’re excited to share our design for the new ABC Rovaniemi!

The architecture draws inspiration from its northern setting, bringing local identity into a contemporary design. The new service station is designed to be a welcoming place to stop, meet and recharge, serving both locals and travellers passing through Lapland.

Construction has started this autumn 2026, with the opening scheduled for summer 2027.

One of our residential projects nearing completion, Oulun Kultakello, introduces the first apartment building to the neighbourhood of Kello, Oulu, bringing a new approach to residential living in the area.

Set to be completed later this year, the building combines three and four storey sections connected by a shared passageway. Light brick façades, expansive glazing and warm accents create a balanced architectural expression, while glazed balconies extend the living spaces towards the surrounding greenery.

Inside, the apartments are designed with everyday comfort and functionality in mind. Open living spaces, natural light and a warm, neutral material palette create inviting interiors, complemented by wood details and carefully considered finishes.

Autumn is settling in at the PAVE studio.

As our studio art exhibition Connecting People has drawn to a close, many of our projects are moving towards completion.

Two of our major hotel projects, Arcora and Santas Noelle, will be completed in December and welcome their first guests. Our hotel project in Ruka will open its doors in spring 2027. We can’t wait to see these spaces in use.

Construction is progressing on the Terrace Houses and Oulun Kultakello. Kultakello, the first apartment building in the Kello neighbourhood, is due for completion by the end of November, whilst Terrace Houses will welcome residents to their new homes in time for Christmas 2027.

Alongside these larger projects, we also have private homes on our drawing boards. Each brings its own possibilities and rewards to the design process.

Thank you to everyone who visited the exhibition. We are looking forward to the season ahead and the projects to come!

Our architecture has helped shape Toppilansalmi for over 12 years and now expanded to Ranta-Toppila in Oulu.

Our newest addition to Ranta-Toppila, Puhurinranta, brings spacious homes with bright living areas upstairs to make the most of the coastal setting. Right next door, the private homes of Merivillat enjoy uninterrupted sea views, with timber façades and pitched roofs inspired by traditional boathouses.

Our journey began just a stone’s throw away in Toppilansalmi at Tervahovi Silos and Old Silos, transforming former industrial silos into loft style apartments. It continued with the adjoining SOK mill site, where a new residential building reinterprets the scale and character of the original structure. The detached Waterfront Houses completed the Tervahovi masterplan.

Nearby, K21 continues this connection to the area’s industrial past, bringing homes, care services and local amenities together in a building that echoes the form of the former harbour warehouse.

From industrial heritage to contemporary coastal homes, each project adds a new chapter to these neighbouring waterfront neighbourhoods.

Puhurinranta takes shape in Ranta Toppila, where the area’s maritime and industrial character provides a distinctive setting for new homes.

The façades are defined by a strong rhythm of dark and light timber, varied rooflines and generous glazed sections. Along the western side, balconies and terraces extend the homes towards the surrounding landscape, while the ground level spaces create a more open outdoor layer.

The contrasting timber tones, repeated vertical lines and clearly articulated volumes give the row of homes a cohesive expression while maintaining variation between each section.

Kaleva critic Leena Kangas visited our Connecting People exhibition at PAVE Studio, exploring how the works interact with the architecture, materials and spaces of the building.
The international group exhibition brings together 61 works by 30 artists from eight countries across three floors of PAVE Studio.

These are the final weeks to visit the exhibition. Connecting People is open until the end of September 2026, with free guided tours on Thursdays from 16:00 to 18:00.
Larger groups can also arrange a separate visit in advance.

At K21, the material palette brings the building’s different layers into focus.

Raw concrete from the former warehouse sits alongside corrugated metal, galvanised steel and vivid orange surfaces.

Creating a clear contrast between the retained industrial structure and the new architecture.

Some of the graffiti on the original concrete has also been preserved.

During the years when the warehouse stood derelict, these markings became a prominent part of its character.

Keeping traces of them allows that chapter of the building’s history to remain visible rather than being erased.

Across the courtyards and facades, metal screens, stairs and vertical fins filter sunlight and cast changing shadows over the surfaces throughout the day.

Together with the weathered concrete and strong colour accents, these details give K21 a material identity that feels both industrial and distinctly new.
