At the NATO Innovation Range Capability Demonstrator in Oulu on 28–29 October, KNL will show how Cognitive Networked HF (CNHF) system can support communications between an unmanned ground vehicle and a command centre, where local communications infrastructure is unavailable.

The demonstration brings together long-range HF communications, an unmanned system and onboard data processing. It is being carried out in collaboration with Oulu University of Applied Sciences – Oamk, Offcode Ltd, University of Oulu and PehuTec Oy.

The event provides an opportunity to demonstrate and explore capabilities in a relevant testing and innovation environment.

KNL was pleased to take part in Team Finland’s visit to Japan, accompanying Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen and a Finnish defence industry delegation.

The visit brought Finnish and Japanese stakeholders together to discuss opportunities for cooperation, including at the Finland–Japan Defence Technology Seminar. For KNL, it was a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives on defence communications and the role of resilient connectivity in a wider C5ISR architecture.

We look forward to continuing the discussions and exploring opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Finland and Japan.

We recently gathered to celebrate KNL’s expanded and renovated office in Oulu. The new spaces support collaboration, focused work and the everyday encounters that help ideas and knowledge move across teams.

At the event, Lasse Kukkonen shared his perspectives on teamwork, trust and shared responsibility. His reflections provided a valuable reminder that a strong team is built through individual contributions, open cooperation and a shared sense of direction.

Future land operations require forces to exchange information across national and organisational boundaries.

Interoperability is therefore not limited to individual radios or systems. It requires communications architectures that connect Allied command systems, units, platforms and sensors while allowing nations to retain their own technologies and operational structures.

KNL’s CNHF technology has already been selected by NATO member countries to support interoperable long-range HF communications among Allied forces.
