Second day of installation of our latest green wall in Madrid.

This will be home to almost 4000 plants.

And it will all be fully irrigated with recycled shower water from the hotel!

Many thank to Novotel for leading the hotel industry with projects like this!

And much respect to our construction team for making it happen!

Heat never disappears.

It only changes location.

July 2026 was one of the three hottest months ever recorded.
India hit 45.4 degrees in April.
Europe went through five heat waves before mid-August.
In one week, 180 million people in the United States were under major or extreme heat risk.

So we did the obvious thing. We bought more air conditioners.

AC use has tripled in India. In the Gulf, cooling now eats up to two thirds of the electricity at peak.
And in Europe, only 20% of buildings have air conditioning today.

Most of the world's air conditioning is not installed yet.

Here is the part most people don't get.

An air conditioner does not kill heat. It moves it.
It goes out of your room
and into the street where you walk.

It has been measured that AC units can make the street air 8 degrees hotter.

What does that mean?
Hotter streets make hotter buildings.
Hotter buildings use more AC.
More AC makes hotter streets.

Like this, the cycle keeps going on and on.

A green wall and a planted roof stop the heat before it touches the building.
The surface stays up to 30 degrees cooler.

What's clear? That a city cannot air-condition its way out of this.

The good news is that most of these machines are still to be installed.
The question is: do we keep making the same mistake?

If you design buildings that cannot handle heat on their own, you are part of the problem.

If you want to become part of the solution, then you should learn how to design and build green buildings.

What happens behind scene of a green building?

It’s not just water and plants that makes a green building green.

It’s a engineered system of technology that ensures all the green infrastructure stay healthy.

Here's the 3 most important tech that makes our green buildings strong

◾ Intelligent Dosing: For green walls to last for decades its important to feed the plants with the right nutrients. Our nutrient system are like a chef's kitchen, it mixes the perfect plant meal. A doser adds just the right amount of nutrients, so our plants get exactly what they need, without waste.

◾ Precision Hydration: Automated electrovalves open and close at precise times, acting as a smart irrigation system. Particle filters and pressure controls ensure a perfect, clog-free flow of water to every single plant.

◾ 24/7 Health Check: Our EC and pH meters constantly monitor the water, giving us real-time data on the system's health. It’s like a live report card for every plant.

◾ Real-Time Alerts: An integrated monitoring system with live sensors means if something is off, we know about it immediately with an alert on our phone.

We don’t have a water problem - We have an architectural problem.

Every day we flush clean drinking water down the toilet.

At the same time, 2.2 billion people don't have safe water to drink.

That makes no sense!

At Biotonomy , we follow a better way — nature’s way.
We design buildings that become part of the natural water cycle.

Here is how it works, step by step:

1 - Rain falls on the roof.
2 - It goes into a tank and gets filtered.
3 - You shower and wash with it.
4 - That shower water is reused to flush the toilet.
5 - The toilet water is filtered with plants.
6 - The water is used for irrigation.
7 - Plants drink what is left and breathe it out through their leaves.

It turns into clouds. And the cycle starts again.

Nothing is thrown away. Every drop gets used again, the way nature does it.

This cuts water use by up to 75%. It also keeps dirty water out of rivers and the sea.

We have enough water. We just use it once and throw it away.

The fix is not a new water source. It is a new way to design buildings.

This is what Nature Based Architecture means: buildings that give water a second, third and fourth life.

The best building isn't the efficient one.

It's the autonomous one.

Most buildings depend completely on outside systems.
Water, power, heating, and cooling.
If the supply stops, the building stops.

A building designed with natural systems handles its own water.
It heat & cools itself.
It keeps working.

It can still connect to the city.
But it just doesn't panic when the city fails.

For 15 years we have designed and built buildings like this,
in very different climates around the world.

And our Academy has taught more than 500 people how buildings can do this.

Today we close enrollment for this edition.

We build everything backwards.

Our homes depend on unstable systems.
They drain water, energy, and resources—
and give us pollution, waste, and rising bills in return.

That’s not progress.
That’s dependence.

A building should do the opposite.
◾ It should make its own water.
◾Grow food.
◾Cool & heat itself without machines.
◾And give life back to nature.

That’s what we call Nature Based Architecture —
turning every building into a living ecosystem.

For the past 15 years, we’ve been designing and building projects that work with nature instead of against it.

This post shows 7 Nature-Based Solutions that could completely change how we build — and protect what’s coming.

The sun is not what makes a city hot - the buildings are!

It's like the beach - the sand burns your feet but the grass next to it is cool.

Concrete buildings burn our cities while Green Buildings keep them cool.

A concrete building soak up sunlight all day and give it back all night.

Green buildings do the opposite. Plants shade the surface, and the water they release cools the air.

A concrete wall in full sun can pass 60 degrees. A green building can stay up to 30 degrees cooler.

This is what we do at Biotonomy. We transform conventional buildings into green buildings.

And it's what we teach in our Academy.

Can you believe plants can turn toilet wastewater into clean, usable water?

It sounds crazy, but it’s 100% possible — no chemicals just nature!

80% of the world’s wastewater goes untreated and most people don’t even know this, but it’s a serious problem.

The good news is that the solution is simple and scalable.

Here’s how it works:

1️⃣ Plants are placed in a special system filled with gravel. They grow and prepare to clean the water.

2️⃣ The magic happens under the surface - As the water flows, plant roots and bacteria remove waste and harmful substances.

3️⃣ Clean water flows out! Safe for irrigation, flushing toilets, or returning to nature.

Imagine if every building treated its own wastewater. We could save millions of liters and restore biodiversity at the same time.

If you don't understand natural cooling, you don't understand architecture.

Most buildings are built the wrong way.
First we build the shape.
Then we add AC to fix it.

A glass box in the sun gets hot.
Like a greenhouse.
So we fight the heat with power.
All day. Every day.

The power bill never stops.
And if the power goes out, the building gets too hot to use.

There is a better way.
A building can cool itself.
No AC. Just air, water, plants, and the sun.

Here is how it works:

- Windcatcher: a tower catches the wind and sends cool air down to the earth.
- Earth tubes: air comes in through the tower and starts cooling down.
- Cool water channel: the air passes over water. Now it's even cooler.
- Solar chimney: the sun heats it. It pulls hot air up and out of the building.
- Green roof and green walls: plants shade the building and cool the air.

Cool air comes in at the bottom.
Hot air goes out the top.
No machine in the middle.

This is not new.
People in old Persia did this 700 years ago.
They made desert homes much cooler. With no power at all.

What is new? Smart sensors and AI.
They watch the wind and the heat.
They open and close each part on their own.

Old ideas. New tools.

A building that needs power to stay cool is not really designed.
It's just plugged in.

Comment "Academy" and I'll show you how we build cooling into buildings.

Nobody teaches you how to build a green building.

Not at university. Not on the construction site.

Our founder, Moein Nodehi, worked on some of the world's biggest construction projects. That's where he understood how messed up the construction industry really was.

In his office, he was the only one who wanted to build differently.

So he left his job and went around the world looking for green solutions.

After twenty countries, this is what he found:

A building can run four of its own systems:

1 - Water - Catch the rain, treat what goes down the drain, use it again.
2 - Natural Comfort - Catch & store temperatures naturally using basic physics.
3 - Energy - Using solar & wind to provide electricity.
4 - Food - Integrated greenhouses that recycle water and produce fruits and vegetables.

None of this is new. Most of it is, in fact, very ancient.

What is missing is never the idea. It is the detail. The sizing. The drawings. The mistake someone already made, so you don't have to.

That part stays inside the companies that hold it. It does not get taught.

That is the part we spent fifteen years collecting.
