Every person who wants to build a house needs to decide whether to:

Build a house that consumes. Or a house that produces.

A house that consumes means you rent your water and power for the rest of your life.

A house that produces means you own them.

Most people build the first kind without noticing. They pick the tiles. They pick the kitchen. And they sign the house up for bills that never stop.

We have spent the past 15 years building the second kind.

These homes:

- Produce their own water.
- Heat and cool themselves naturally.
- Treat their wastewater and reuse it 4 times.
- Grow food in their own greenhouse.

None of this is new. Houses that produce used to be normal. Then we invented houses that consume.

You get to pick which one you build - but pick wisely, because one will cost you for the rest of your life.

Grey walls, recycled air, no nature.
And then we wonder why people feel tired all the time.

This office in Málaga shows a different way.
A wall full of plants that breathes, cools the air, and changes how people feel at work.

Imagine a phone that you could only use once.
You make one call, then you throw it away.

Super ridiculous, right?

Yet this is exactly how most buildings are designed to use water.
A litre of perfectly clean drinking water enters the building.
It gets one job.

Maybe you shower with it.
And then we throw it away.
One litre = one job.

Most people call that normal.
At Biotonomy, we call it single-use thinking.

Because water doesn't become useless after doing one job.

In the buildings we design, the same water can have up to four jobs:

Job #1: You take a shower.
Job #2: It irrigates a food garden, green wall or green roof.
Job #3: It flushes a toilet.
Job #4: After being treated by plants, it irrigates the landscape and trees.

Eventually, the water returns to the atmosphere or the ground — back into the natural water cycle.

One litre = up to four jobs.

So instead of asking:
“How many litres does this building use?”

We should be asking:
“How many jobs does every litre do?”

Because the future isn't only about using less water.
It's about getting more life out of every litre.

That's the difference between single-use thinking and circular thinking.

Most people feel tired at work.

They think it's because they didn't sleep enough.

But here's what people get wrong.

In most buildings, you breathe used air instead of fresh air.

Used air is air that other people have already breathed out.
And it has more CO₂ than fresh air.

The CO₂ goes from your lungs into your blood.
The CO₂ makes your blood more acidic.
And your brain reacts by making you breathe harder and feel foggy.

Offices spend so much money on desks, chairs, and screens.
But they forget to invest in what actually makes people productive - fresh air.

Interior green walls can make people up to 15% more productive.
That's based on research from universities in the UK, the Netherlands, and Australia.

Every leaf takes in CO₂ and gives back oxygen.
So a green wall means less CO₂ in the room.
And people can think clearly again.

We've been building green buildings for over 15 years.
And the first thing people notice is that they feel much better.

This hotel in Madrid doesn't.

110 square meters of green wall, watered with the hotel's shower water.

No drinking water for the garden. No extra cost for guests.

We don't need more water. We need to use it twice.

Nobody used to stop on this street.

It was a street that people rushed through.

Then we transformed one building on the street into a green building.

And something changed that we did not think about.

People stopped.
They looked up.

With time, people changed their route to work.
Because they wanted to walk past the plants.

In just a few months, a street people used to ignore
became a street people choose.

The street feels cooler when you stand next to the wall.
It feels calmer.
It feels like someone cares about this place.

A green building changes how a street feels,
and how people move through it.

If you don't design with water — you don't understand architecture

Every day we flush clean drinking water down the toilet.

At the same time, 2.2 billion people don't have safe water to drink.

That makes no sense!

At Biotonomy, we follow a better way — nature’s way.
We design buildings that become part of the natural water cycle.

Here is how it works, step by step:

1 - Rain falls on the roof.
2 - It goes into a tank and gets filtered.
3 - You shower and wash with it.
4 - That shower water is reused to flush the toilet.
5 - The toilet water is filtered with plants.
6 - The water is used for irrigation.
7 - Plants drink what is left and breathe it out through their leaves.

It turns into clouds. And the cycle starts again.

Nothing is thrown away. Every drop gets used again, the way nature does it.

This cuts water use by up to 75%. It also keeps dirty water out of rivers and the sea.

We have enough water. We just use it once and throw it away.

If you don't understand air, you don't understand buildings.

Most buildings get their air from one machine.
It takes the same air and pushes it round the room, again and again.

That is like reusing the same shower water every day without cleaning it.

Plants make new air constantly, and that's why we must have them indoors.
They have done it for millions of years, and you feel it the moment you stand next to a green wall.

For more than 15 years, we've been turning conventional buildings into buildings that work with natural systems, inside and out.

We have learned to accept ugly buildings as normal.

And our expectations have fallen with them.

Buildings have become products rather than expressions of who we are.

Civilizations once invested enormous resources into beautiful temples, gardens and public squares.

Today, we build entire parts of cities that nobody would ever visit for their beauty.

Because too much of what we build today is driven by cost, efficiency, cars and maximizing square meters — not human well-being.

At Biotonomy, we believe every building should give people a reason to stop and admire it.

Four years ago, almost nobody stopped in front of this hotel.

Today, after covering its facade with nature, it has become one of the most photographed hotels in Málaga, Spain.

And it doesn’t just look beautiful — the system treats and reuses the hotel’s shower water to irrigate the plants.

People stop. Look up. Take photos. Enjoy it.

That matters.

Because we shape our cities — and then our cities shape us.
