Yesterday, Bartek, Taiki, Marissa and I visited a few places around our area…
First, Embalse de Beleña, which is currently at only 38% of its water capacity. Beautiful colours, but sadly, so empty… Then we visited the Río Sorbe, flowing very slowly through the landscape.
Both places are surrounded by areas affected by the last big wildfire, La Mierla, which burned around 35,000 hectares. So sad to see how much wilderness has just disappeared… Hopefully, nature will take over again, recover and continue to thrive. Nature has an incredible ability to come back, if we just give it time.
We also spotted the first heralds of autumn! 🍂 After the first rainy days, beautiful little violet flowers started appearing from the ground. During late summer and autumn, these wild flowers, resembling crocuses, pop up naturally across the meadows, oak clearings (encinares) and uncultivated fields around El Casar.
Locally called quitameriendas, these plants are often species of Colchicum. They look absolutely beautiful!
For some reason, although we didn’t really know why, we were all completely tired by the end of the day! 😂
But that didn’t stop us from finishing the day with a proper pétanque tournament! 🎯😂
Beautiful landscapes, sad reminders of what nature has lost, little signs of new life, good company and a lot of fun… That’s what makes a day special
