We work in the fields of industrial design, residential architecture, commercial interiors, photography and art direction. Our home and the things we surround ourselves with, should provide a refuge from the daily chaos, which seems to dominate our world. By understanding minimalism as an aesthetic, and simplicity as a philosophy of life, NORM aims at providing structures which gives a feeling of freedom.

Set within the coastal landscape of Odsherred, Shoreline Studio is conceived as a place for work, retreat, and immersion in nature.

The atelier stands as a refined counterpart to an existing brick summerhouse, shaped by a careful dialogue between Danish building tradition and Japanese spatial sensibility. Thatch, timber, brick, and reclaimed beams ground the project in its local context, while layered thresholds, filtered daylight, and framed views create a close connection to meadow, dunes, pine, and shore.

Rooted in the textures and tones of its surroundings, the studio softens the boundary between inside and outside, allowing architecture and landscape to exist in calm continuity.

For over a decade, the Carrie Lamp designed for has moved peacefully through homes and shared spaces – casting a soft, atmospheric glow wherever it goes.

Now, on its 10-year anniversary, a renewed expression emerges in six new finishes – Black, Ivory, Golden Brown, Linen Blue, Brushed Aluminium and Bronzed Brass – each complemented by a leather-wrapped handle that adds warmth and tactility to its familiar form.

As another year draws to a close, we find it ever so important to stop and reflect – and it has truly been a year full of exciting new projects, inspiration and rewarding cooperation with talented people from all over the world!

Amongst a great plethora of exciting projects, we have expanded on our initial collaboration with the Michelin-starred Restaurang ÄNG in Sweden and created seven villas with each four hotel rooms, perched delicately on a lake. We call it Sjöparken.
In Tokyo, we contributed to the creation of TRUNK(HOTEL) Yoyogi Park together with our talented friends at Keiji Ashizawa Design.
Back in Copenhagen, we launched a new flagship store for LINIE DESIGN, where architectural poetry unfolds alongside handwoven rugs on display.
Within the floating ‘Salmon Eye’ art installation by Kvorning ApS, framed by the majestic Hardingerfjord in Norway, we created the interior for the Michelin-starred Restaurant Iris.
Then, crossing the Atlantic, we helped create a new showroom for the Copenhagen-based brand, Reform, in New York City’s dynamic Dumbo neighborhood.

On another scale, we have also finished quite a few private residences; In Denmark, we finished Heatherhill Beach House and Holmen Abode. The first turning out as a harmonious blend of Danish architectural traditions and contemporary innovation nestled amidst scenic hills, facing the beach and Kattegat, while the latter beautifully reimagines an architectural gem from the 90’s with timeless simplicity and modern elegance.
Along Hong Kong’s southern coastline, Repulse Bay Residence was envisioned as a living gallery that continuously evolve and adapt to a variety of everyday needs.
And lastly, we created a one-of-a-kind penthouse spanning across the entire top floor of a grand building along the East River in Brooklyn, NYC.

Moreover, we were lucky enough to launch our second book, Stillness, together with gestalten; an exploration of Japanese aesthetics in architecture and design through a Scandinavian lens – and gathered good friends and colleagues to celebrate at Audo House with a curated exhibition and insightful talks.

Additionally, we’ve created thoughtful furniture pieces and objects together with like-minded collaborators such as BRANDT Collective , Ancher Studio, Audo Copenhagen, Origin Made, Karimoku Case and Blēo.

We are grateful to have been part of all these journeys and look forward to not only continuing our on-going projects but also starting new ones in 2025.

Nestled within a historic motor torpedo boat hall, the new Holmen Abode in Copenhagen, Denmark, beautifully reimagines this architectural gem from the 90’s with timeless simplicity and modern elegance.

The interior represents a simplistic fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design elements that invites tranquility and harmony into the mundane. This way, the space is designed to balance the vibrant views outside, creating a quiet canvas that lets the landscape take center stage.

To further this vision, natural materials like oak wood are prominently used throughout the home. Its warm, organic texture adds a layer of natural beauty and timeless appeal, grounding the modern design in a sense of place and history. Hence, the use of oak wood is not just an aesthetic choice but also a nod to sustainability and enduring quality, reflecting the principles of both design philosophies.

Moreover, incorporating a traditional Shoji screen in the bathroom introduces a captivating interplay of light and shadow. The delicate washi paper, meticulously crafted for its translucency, gently diffuses natural light, creating a serene and inviting ambiance. This ancient Japanese technique not only enhances the bathroom's aesthetic with its minimalist elegance but also fosters a sense of calm and relaxation.

Nestled within the floating art installation Salmon Eye and framed by the majestic Hardangerfjord in Norway, the Michelin-starred Restaurant Iris invites guests into a world of sustainable gourmet excellence.

The restaurant’s interior, crafted by Norm Architects, masterfully contrasts and complements the innovative, ellipsoid architecture designed by Kvorning Design. While the imposing steel construction speaks of strength and modernity, elements of warmth and comfort, such as walnut wood, plush carpets, and upholstered furniture, create a homey, inviting setting that appeals to the human senses. This cozy retreat, set against the expansive ocean backdrop, offers an intimate dining experience in the sometimes harsh Nordic weather.

Upon arriving after an unforgettable boat journey, guests can indulge in a set tasting menu that emphasizes sustainability, local ingredients, and the vibrant life beneath the sea. It is more than a place to dine; it's an immersive experience where the breathtaking natural beauty of the fjord meets exceptional culinary artistry and thoughtful design.

Initiated by the world’s first and only CarbonNeutral® certified salmon producer, Eide Fjordbruk, Salmon Eye is not only one of the world's largest enterable floating art installations – visually stunning as it is with its double curved ellipsoid design – it is also a forum meant to inspire and inform the world on how to better feed the planet with sustainable seafood.

We are thrilled to share that our new publication, ’Stillness’, is finally available for purchase at gestalten!

Juxtaposing images from Japan with the work of our studio, the book highlights the centuries-old connections between the distinct design cultures, emphasizing mutual respect and shared philosophies.
At once an ode to Japan, a personal travelogue, and an aesthetic manifesto, ‘Stillness’ takes readers on Norm’s decade-long journey as we’ve sought to understand one of the world’s most revered creative cultures.

'Stillness' is an exploration of Japanese aesthetics in architecture and design from a Scandinavian perspective. Across the seas, two distant regions have developed similar approaches to design and architecture that share a respect for nature, a sensitivity to light, and a dedication to craft.⁠

The profound beauty of stillness we see in Japanese aesthetics is at once familiar and foreign. On one hand it feels like home and resonates with the melancholic simplicity of our Scandinavian culture – the still atmosphere of a Japanese garden or tearoom is not far from the stillness you can experience looking at the empty spaces painted by Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi. On the other hand, the rich cultural tapestry of Japanese architecture, crafts and gardens embodies a profound harmony between the self and the surroundings that is not found in Scandinavian design.

Exploring Japanese aesthetics from a Scandinavian perspective has been a journey of curiosity as well as introspection. In our attempt to unveil defining conversations and ideas in Japanese architecture and design, we have also sought to understand the kinship between our Scandinavian heritage and how one culture has influenced the other, as well as to ponder the timeless allure of Japanese aesthetics. Therefore, commentary from expert collaborators in both regions provides in-depth understanding into key design principles throughout the book.

Iris Restaurant in Norway holds one star in Michelin Guide’s Point Of View

We are proud to see that Restaurant Iris has reached a Michelin Star earlier this week. Having worked on its interior design, we can only agree that it’s truly an incredible space and atmosphere.

Providing one of the most astonishing dining settings you will find, this restaurant is housed inside a gleaming floating structure known as the ‘Salmon Eye’.

Salmon Eye is a forum meant to inspire and inform the world on how to better feed the planet with sustainable seafood. Visually stunning, with it’s double curved ellipsoid deisgn, Salmon Eye is one of the world’s largest entrable floating art installations.

Situated in Hardangerfjord, it can be accessed via a short boat ride from Rosendal and presents the opportunity to dine with an unparalleled view of the fjord.

From their global journey, they've now curated a definitive list of the best 100 new hotels of the year. We are thrilled to announce that TRUNK(HOTEL) Yoyogi Park has earned its place among these outstanding selections.

Designed to fit seamlessly into the vibrant spirit of the Japanese Oku-shibu district, this stunning boutique hotel boasts a relaxed, human-centered ethos. While aesthetic choices harmoniously reflect the laid-back yet sophisticated vibe of the neighborhood, the concept of 'Urban Recharge' is at the heart of the project — a pivotal theme weaving together the city and nature as well as tradition and modernity.

The newly formed Scandinavian color house Blēo takes color beyond the traditional boundaries of paint, working with an exhaustive list of today’s most compelling artists, architects, and designers.

Founded and based in Copenhagen, Blēo’s approach is guided by contemporary culture, philosophy, and research. They want to pioneer a new and conceptual way of taking on colour, built on an eclectic understanding of arts and science, quality, history, and innovation.

We are proud to be part of their very first ensemble with our collection ‘Returning to Nature’.
