Today is International Women’s Day. An annual reminder of the work for equality that has been done by thousands of women before us, and the work that remains. We are focusing on equal access to public space in our project Buens Torv and last week we conducted our first (of hopefully many more) workshops on the topic. We want feminist architecture at the center of the Danish planning agenda, and we want gendered notions in public space to be seen and addressed. Big thanks to all the engaged and inspiring participants in the workshop and we are excited to be a part in forming a strong network to push the field forward. Read the great post our colleague Amalie has written (in Danish) on our website (link in bio), where she has gathered some of our thoughts on the topic.

Remember to act according to the UN Women’s small actions for big impact - every day of the year:

Why do women not use public space to the same extent as men? What gendered notions are in play and how can we address them through design? These are some of the questions we are looking into in our project Buens Torv. In collaboration with and .byliv we are creating a series of interventions under Bispeengbuen to create more inviting spaces for women and girls as well as increase diversity of activities and people. Here are a few pictures from our process so far, working on a wayfinding intervention together with a group of girls from street society, and a couple of pictures that gives an overview of the area. Vi har vært så heldig å få jobbe på dette spennende prosjektet i Bodø! Gleder oss til å følge prosessen videre, og ikke minst til å se det endelige resultatet😊

– Ensomhet har vært en ledestjerne i medvirkningsprosjektet, og vi har sett et ønske om en inkluderende og human bydel hvor folk har stort fokus på særlig havnepromenaden i Molobyen, forteller sosiolog og design researcher Mette Mossige i Prologue AS.

We designed and built it together with the kids of Tagensboskole and Al Huda Skolen.
