Sydney Fish Market named 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 of 'The Building’ category at the INDE.Awards!

Last week, we were honoured to take part in the INDE.Awards’ 10th anniversary celebration in Melbourne where Sydney Fish Market was recognised among the winners. We are incredibly proud to see the project celebrated as a remarkable civic destination for Sydney.

Part market, part public waterfront, part urban theatre, the new Sydney Fish Market has become a new anchor for the city. One that attracts millions of visitors to experience its 6,000 sqm waterfront public space and the unique transparency of a working fish market. It is a destination where operations, market life, display, leisure and community come together around something far greater than a market alone.

We are immensely proud that the building has been so warmly embraced by industry peers, as well as from the many people who, every day, make Sydney Fish Market their own.

We’re proud to mark the opening of Shenzhen Natural History Museum on the edge of Yanzi Lake.

Inspired by the slow movements of the Pingshan River, the building unfolds in branching curves and rising ground.The facade references cliff faces and rock formations, a language that continues into the exhibition halls.
Designed by 3XN in collaboration with B+H Architects and ZHUBO Design the museum is a new public destination for natural history, ecology and shared learning.

Great news! 3XN GXN has been shortlisted at the World Architecture Festival with two projects recognised by this year’s jury!

𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐚, designed by 3XN GXN in collaboration with KIRKOR Architects and Planners as local architect, and developed for Hines and Tridel, also joins the 2026 shortlist in the category 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨: 𝙃𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐒𝐲𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭, designed by 3XN | GXN in association with BVN Architecture and ASPECT Studios and developed for Infrastructure NSW has been shortlisted in 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 – 𝙈𝙞𝙭𝙚𝙙 𝙐𝙨𝙚.

It’s an honour to see both projects celebrated by WAF!

The opening of Shenzhen Natural History Museum is drawing closer by the day, and the countdown to 28 July has begun.

At more than 100,000 m², the museum will be one of the world’s largest natural history museums and a major new cultural destination for Shenzhen, bringing together exhibitions, learning, research, and public space.

We look forward to seeing the museum become part of the city’s cultural life and to welcoming the people of Shenzhen into this significant new institution.

We want to thank all of you who came by to see the exhibition 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳, took the time to have meaningful conversations, and showed interest in both 3XN GXN and the designers — and of course to everyone who celebrated with us at the final party!

How can architecture create a sense of belonging through material awareness and environmental responsibility?

𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝟐.𝟎 responds through an architecture in which structure, resource, and atmosphere are conceived as one coherent whole.

Located in Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm, the hotel extends the adjacent Green Solution House completed in 2015 and continues an architectural narrative shaped by the careful use of materials and a close relationship to context. The building is conceived through timber construction.

As one of the oldest building materials, timber offers structural clarity as well as a distinct tactile presence. The façade expresses it directly; its surface carries warmth and depth, while the cross-laminated timber elements remain exposed inside, giving the spaces a calm, domestic character.

The volume is composed as a staggered arrangement of simple units, forming a serrated façade that lends rhythm and scale to the elevation. This configuration ensures that each room has a sheltered balcony and a direct relationship to the surrounding landscape.

Material continuity extends into the interior fittings, where timber offcuts from production have been crafted into bespoke furniture, while granite and glass residues from local sources are incorporated into surfaces and tiles.

Walls and floor slabs are formed from large prefabricated CLT elements, manufactured with high accuracy and assembled on site. Solar panels and on-site water reuse are incorporated within the same logic, ensuring that construction, material performance, and operation form a coherent whole.

A glimpse into our installation showcased at the Venice Architecture Biennale during 3daysofdesign 🔍

Our contribution to the Biennale, Local Resource / Collective Knowledge, begins with what is already there. Originally developed for the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale and presented as part of Working Matter at the 3daysofdesign, the project explores how architecture can grow from local materials, craft traditions, and shared knowledge.

The installation brings together three material investigations from Cuba, Venice, and Western Denmark, each shaped by local ecologies, labour, and making practices. From woven palm leaves and reused mussel shells and algae to bacteria-grown cement, the project looks at how local resources can inform more responsive and responsible building methods.

At its core, the work asks how architecture might begin with place — and shows how collaboration with local communities can open new ways of working with climate, material, and culture.

Presented alongside designers and makers exploring related questions of process, material, and sourcing at our main office in Copenhagen during 3daysofdesign, the project entered a broader conversation about design as a practice of resourcefulness, material innovation, and local intelligence.

In this context, the installation brought the underlying research, material experimentation, and situated knowledge systems into closer focus.

Meet SMALLrevolution (smallrevolution.dk), the Danish design practice we’re excited to present at 'Working Matter' in our Copenhagen office during .

With The Continuity of Plastic Waste, SMALLrevolution explores recycled plastic not as disposable waste, but as a material with lasting structural, technical, and aesthetic value. Working exclusively with post-consumer and post-industrial plastic streams, the studio transforms discarded materials from sectors such as healthcare, aviation, infrastructure, and consumer packaging into new design applications produced locally in Denmark.

At the core of the project is a deep focus on material identity. Rather than concealing the origins of each plastic stream, SMALLrevolution preserves the distinct qualities embedded within it — from colour variation and texture to additives and retained performance properties. These visible traces of previous use become part of the final expression, showing how waste can carry both history and potential.

The project is equally grounded in a strong sustainability approach, building documented closed-loop systems that reduce dependence on virgin plastic and support traceable, local production. With no added pigments, fillers, or resins, the installation demonstrates how materials already in circulation can be reimagined through design, research, and circular production.

Meet Studio LoopLoop (), the Rotterdam-based design practice we’re excited to present at Working Matter in our Copenhagen office during 3daysofdesign.

Founded by Odin Visser and Charles Gateau, Studio LoopLoop works at the intersection of industry and craft, developing objects, tools, and production methods through hands-on material research. Their presentation follows the evolution of a lighting project through experimentation with thin industrial aluminium, from embossed samples and halfware to prototype and final object.

At the centre of the project is a strong focus on material transformation. Using their self-developed Magic Mill, the studio investigates embossing techniques and the potential of aluminium reflector material, revealing new textures, structural qualities, and visual depth. All samples and components are coloured in-house using the studio’s own anodizing setup, showing how an industrial material can become highly expressive and customizable through self-reliant production in their Rotterdam workshop.

This research is also shaped by a thoughtful sustainability approach. By rethinking conventional manufacturing processes and exploring alternatives such as plant-derived anodizing dyes for aluminium, Studio LoopLoop opens up new ways of working with familiar materials while reducing reliance on standard industrial systems.
