Danielsen Architecture

Danielsen Architecture Danielsen Architecture, founded in 1987, has its main office in Copenhagen (Denmark).

The practice works internationally providing full architecture services for both the public and private sectors. The practice is driven by a consistent philosophical approach, not a predetermined house style. As a result, it aims to create specifically detailed buildings that are intimately connected to context and Nordic functionalism. The work of Danielsen Architecture is based upon a solid foun

dation of design excellence, budget and programme control, proficient project management and the achievement of best value and architectural quality. We believe that high quality design results from the continuity of the design process and intensive dialogue with the client, consultants, contractors and end users. Working directly with the group of directors and their architectural teams, Danielsen Architecture is involved in the design and supervision of each project from the initial concept stage, through planning, construction and completion. We work closely together to ensure the best results are achieved through a synthesis of concept, beauty and functional integration. The office works with a large variety of projects that encompasses most fields of the trade ranging from conceptual development, planning, environmentally correct design, project management, construction management and occupation inspection. Trough a controlled development, post graduate supplementary courses, study tours, participation in competitions, etc., we thrive for the best architectonic results, with the key vision of a professional process and valuable architecture. Our working methods varies from hand-drawings, sketch models, 3d-modelling, etc. and plays an important part in the testing and decision making in obtaining the final design. In collaboration with the awarding authority, technicians and the user, our main values are collaboration, analysis, respect and understanding.

Se det fulde program her: https://isu.pub/eEmMgVN

Vi ses fredag den 12. juni til en dag fyldt med gode samtaler!

While a building is formally completed at handover, it continues to evolve as the planting becomes established.

We have followed how the carefully planned courtyard at Accura’s main office in Nordhavn has developed since completion—a reminder that architecture does not end at handover, but continues to evolve in a gentle collaboration with nature.

The courtyard remains intimate in scale and complements the busy working day. At the same time, it is in constant change, as the planting develops and the space takes on new qualities throughout the year.

The building unfolds across 10,000 square meters of office spaces, meeting rooms, and a canteen, and serves as Accura’s main office in Nordhavn. From the outside, it appears as a polished monolith within the surrounding cityscape. Architecturally, the facade is composed with a soft, rhythmic division of bay windows adapted to the building’s program, while the surfaces are clad in light marble, arranged in carefully calibrated patterns where the material’s veining creates a coherent and calm expression across the facade.

Thank you to our client, Accura Advokatpartnerselskab, and to our collaborators, including Danielsen Urban Landscape and Optimus Anlæg, for providing the photographs.

How do we design holistic housing with a significantly lower climate footprint — without compromising architecture, durability, or everyday life?

In Brøndby, we have completed 13 terraced houses with an area of approximately 112 m² each, where timber, straw, h**p, and eelgrass are not niche additions but driving principles. The project is part of the 4 til 1 Planet initiative — initiated by Realdania and Villum Fonden — with the ambition to substantially reduce the climate impact of construction and establish new references for future housing.

The development is built with a timber structure and biogenic insulation, targeting DGNB Gold (+Heart) and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Materials were selected not only for their CO₂ profile, but for their architectural and tectonic potential:

– Straw in the façades instead of mineral wool
– H**p and wood fibre insulation in floors and roof
– Timber as the primary structure rather than concrete
– Timber cladding designed to patinate gracefully in the Danish climate
– Natural ventilation with eelgrass filters as an alternative to mechanical systems

Passive design strategies have been applied consistently: roof overhangs protect façades and shield against high summer sun, western shutters reduce overheating, and a moisture strategy based on vapour control layers rather than conventional vapour barriers supports a robust and breathable envelope.

The lightweight construction required precise coordination and careful tolerance management — while enabling the structural shell to be erected in a single day.

Building with biogenic materials demands earlier decisions, closer collaboration, and shared learning across consultants and contractors. In return, we achieve homes where material logic, detailing, and architectural intent are aligned — integrating durability, indoor climate, and resource awareness from the first line drawn.

The residence have now moved in and the experience shows that practice can shift when we are willing to rethink both materials and process.

Architecture is about more than buildings—it’s about people, moments, and the spaces that bring us together.

This holiday season, we celebrate our community and the inspiring collaborations that shaped our year.

✨ WE’VE WON A NEW OFFICE BUILDING IN NORDHAVN ✨

Together with PensionDanmark, we’re proud to have won Udviklingsselskabet By & Havn’s tender for a new development site in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn. The project is a modern office building of approx. 16,300 m², located in one of the city’s most visionary and fast-growing districts.

The building’s façades are structured around a continuous grid motif in deep green tones, creating calm, rhythm, and cohesion, interpreted through a contemporary architectural expression. The ground floor is set back to form an open colonnade, expanding the edge zone and creating an inviting transition between building and public space.

The architecture works deliberately with a clear base and top, a light and refined roofline, and an expression that both integrates into Nordhavn’s overall character and adds its own distinct identity.

Facing Sundkrogsgade, the office building features an open and outward-looking ground floor, making room for more café life in Nordhavn and contributing actively to urban life regardless the time of day.

The project has been developed in collaboration with PensionDanmark, Danielsen Spaceplanning, and Danielsen Urban Landscape.

We’re excited to be part of shaping the future of Nordhavn 🌊🏙️

Frederiksberg Forsyning – A Strategic and Spatial Transformation of the Workplace

Frederiksberg Forsyning has carried out a significant transformation of its administrative headquarters – a project that merges building adaptation, workplace strategy, and interior architecture into one cohesive development process.

With buildings B and C as the operational anchors, the existing framework is reimagined to meet contemporary demands for functionality, resilience, and spatial quality. The divestment of building D has simultaneously created the opportunity for a fundamental reassessment of spatial use, enabling a more integrated organisation of offices, training facilities, and workshop functions across the complex.

The transformation is not merely about relocating functions – it is about creating a vibrant and future-ready workplace that supports collaboration, flexibility, and well-being.

Key initiatives include:
A central gathering point that acts as the heart of the building – featuring green atrium spaces and dynamic meeting areas
A modernised canteen and improved indoor climate for a healthier and more comfortable workday
Seamless integration of functions from building D into buildings B and C
A workplace strategy that embraces change and new work patterns
Interior solutions that reflect Frederiksberg Forsyning’s identity and enhance the user experience
A strengthened connection to the city, making the organisation more open and accessible
This is more than a renovation – it is a strategic step toward the workplace of the future, where the physical environment aligns with the ambitions of those who inhabit it.

The project was developed in collaboration with Danielsen Urban Landscape and Danielsen Spaceplanning.
