jaja architects The official jaja page. Stick around for news, events and project updates. JAJA means Yes Yes!

It is a mindset committed to exploring the entire field of architecture and urban planning - and to transform its complex compositions into crystal clear ideas. As in solving a algorithm, we include all parameters, all data, process it and boil it down to simple answers to complex problems. In this rigorous process, we find ourselves able with minimal interventions to unfold a project's maximum potential.

Sejlbryggen!

Construction work is well under way, and we are so excited to follow the process. With the H.C. Ørsted power plant as a backdrop, the forthcoming apartment blocks will be clad in distinctive red tones – a nod to the site’s industrial past.

Wood is the primary material in the load-bearing structures, significantly reducing the project’s carbon footprint compared to conventional construction methods.

The project is made in collaboration with: AP Ejendomme, 5E Byg, Cobe, and AFRY – and forms part of the wider Enghave Brygge Syd development, with Dorte Mandrup, Tegnestuen Vandkunsten, and Sweco Denmark A/S also involved.

A new mobility hub for the Brøndby Strand of the future!

Today, the site is a car park but in the future, it could become a vibrant gateway to a new town centre, with homes, shops and new places to meet.

We are excited to share that we are working on a new mobility hub for AKF at Brøndby Strand Station, bringing together car parking, grocery shops and a café right next to the S-train and +Way bus service. Located between the station, Borgmester Kjeld Rasmussens Boulevard and the future main high street, the hub will play a central role in connecting transport, everyday life and the emerging town centre!

The wider development includes around 124 new homes with shops and commercial spaces at ground level. The ambition is to give people more reasons to stay a little longer: To pick up groceries on the way home, meet for a coffee or simply take a moment to pause. The mobility hub will help transform the area from a place people pass through into a natural meeting place and an active part of Brøndby Strand’s evolving urban life.

The project is the first step of a wider masterplan by Cobe. The local plan proposal is open for public consultation until 19 October, and we look forward to sharing more as the project takes shape!

“I believe architects have lost too much ground over time, but circular construction offers us the chance to become a key player once again.”

Read the Danske Arkitektvirksomheder interview with our transformation expert Nikolaj, who is currently working on the transformation of Slagteribygningen Faaborg. As an MRK (environmental and resource coordinator), he is responsible for planning the demolition – and, importantly, for identifying a building’s qualities and potential from the very start.

“By coordinating environmental and resource aspects, the architect is involved from the very beginning – when the most important decisions about a building’s future are made. Used properly, this role allows architects to bring their expertise into the design and decision-making process from the outset.”

Competition win in Oslo 🥳

We are very proud to share that we won the competition to design new urban spaces in Filipstad, Oslo together with our friends from Lala Tøyen, Ekanger Fantini Arkitekter , Økologi og bærekraft, Jon Benjamin Tallerås + several key specialists and ressources.

Our project ‘Filipstad – ‘Open to the present, the city and the world’ envisions a neighbourhood that is open, inclusive and relevant to all of Oslos residents and visitors. Our proposal is built around the three key areas:

"Kaia" – the quay, a community-based structure, planned as a democratic and vibrant urban space for everyone.

"Oslofjorden" – the Oslo fjord, providing ecosystem services to the city’s residents every hour of every day, all year round.

"Kunstlageret" – the art hub, the area around the former coffee tower "Aliblokka" with its existing warehouse buildings and tents.

As the jury puts it:

“ Both the overall impression and the details were crucial. All the pre-qualified teams were highly competent and submitted excellent proposals, but the winning proposal stood out as by far the most thoroughly thought-through.”

Now, we can't wait to continue our work!

Every time we visit the Slaughterhouse Building in Faaborg, we’re reminded of how important it is to preserve the small stories within this grand building.

The transformation isn’t just about preserving the building’s major features and industrial character. It’s also about identifying the traces, materials, and details that tell us something about the building’s past – and about finding ways for them to live on in a new context.

Milestone for Amager! The mobility and urban plan for Amager has now been released for public consultation, and we encourage all ‘Amagercans’ to explore the project and share their thoughts and ideas.

With four overall objectives, the project aims to strengthen Amager’s future development of:

1) Mobility – improving traffic safety and green mobility
2) Urban life – creating neighbourhoods with spaces for recreation and urban life
3) Urban spaces – connecting a diverse network of attractive urban spaces
4) Urban nature – enhancing the area’s natural qualities

To reduce through traffic in residential areas, we propose several traffic islands and new green connections that link public squares, parks, schools, public transport hubs, and nature areas.

These connections prioritize cyclists, pedestrians, and green spaces while contributing to a healthier environment, safer traffic, and stronger local communities.

We encourage everyone with an interest in Amager’s future to participate in the coming public meeting!

The project is developed in collaboration with , Kommon ( ), and .creators

Arkitektforeningen is now opening its new Competition Archive, which provides access to a large part of Danish architectural history. The archive brings together competition briefs, reports, and other materials from more than 100 years of architectural competitions!

We are happy to find our winning proposal for a new Sydhavn Church from 2016 among the projects! Designed as a gathering point for both the congregation and for the wider city, it features an upward-moving spiral walkway that invites people from street level to high above the skyline.
