One scene. And sometimes that is enough.

For this shot at Capella Ubud, we kept the frame deliberately simple: water, palms and the dense jungle beyond.

There is something particularly cinematic about the way the pool sits against the surrounding forest here. Rather than feeling separated from the landscape, the architecture almost disappears into it, leaving movement in the palms, reflections across the water and layers of green to carry the frame.

Not every hospitality video needs constant movement or a new angle every few seconds. Sometimes giving a scene enough time to breathe communicates far more about how a place actually feels.

Sometimes the most interesting architecture is the architecture that knows when to disappear.

That idea is particularly visible at Capella Ubud. When Bill Bensley designed the camp, the existing forest became part of the brief rather than an obstacle to it. The tents were positioned around the landscape instead of clearing it, allowing the camp to sit almost hidden between rainforest, rice fields and the contours of the Keliki Valley.

It creates an interesting contrast photographically. From the air, you begin to understand the scale and structure of the property. On the ground, that structure quickly gives way to much smaller details: offerings, flowers, incense and the layers of vegetation that make the camp feel deeply connected to Bali rather than simply placed within it.

That relationship between design, culture and landscape became one of the main visual threads we wanted to capture throughout the production.

Sometimes the strongest sense of place comes from leaving as much of the place untouched as possible.

One final set from beautiful Costa Rica 🇨🇷

Looking back, what stays with us most is the incredible variety packed into such a relatively small country. Rainforest meeting the Pacific, wildlife seemingly everywhere, long stretches of palm-fringed coastline and a culture that genuinely seems to live by its famous Pura Vida philosophy.

For us, personal projects are a chance to create without a brief – to experiment, follow the light, wait for wildlife and simply capture what catches our attention. That creative freedom gives us space between commissioned productions to explore differently, come home with new inspiration and take those ideas back into our work.

That’s a wrap on this personal project for now. Excited to see what we get to create next.

Costa Rica is one of those places where completely different worlds seem to exist side by side.

Along the Pacific coast, surf culture is part of everyday life – but just beyond the beach, the rainforest takes over. Scarlet macaws cross the sky, monkeys move through the trees, coatis wander surprisingly close, and sloths spend most of their lives somewhere high above in the canopy.

And there’s a reason wildlife encounters feel so frequent here: Costa Rica is considered one of the world’s most biodiverse countries, with an estimated 500.000 species calling this relatively small country home.

What we loved most was how naturally it all seemed to coexist. You could start the morning watching surfers catch the first waves, spend the afternoon surrounded by wildlife and palms, and be back at the Pacific for sunset.

A little bit of everything captured as part of our personal project in Costa Rica.

Golden hour never really felt like the end of the day in Costa Rica. It felt more like the reward for everything that came before it.

Almost every evening along the Pacific coast ended somewhere different: a hidden beach, a rocky viewpoint or simply wherever we happened to be when the light started to change.

With more than 1.000 kilometres of Pacific coastline, there certainly wasn’t a shortage of places to watch the sun disappear into the ocean.

And because Costa Rica lies relatively close to the equator, sunset times stay surprisingly consistent throughout the year, with days and nights remaining close to 12 hours each. What changes constantly, though, is the show: deep gold, intense orange, pink reflections on the waves and finally those soft blues just before darkness.

Maybe that’s a little bit of what „PURA VIDA“ is about – taking the time to appreciate the moments that don’t last very long.

If there’s one thing that makes you look like a tourist in Costa Rica, it might be renting a Suzuki Jimny 😄 after a few days on the road, it honestly felt like every second rental car was one. So, naturally, we had one too.

And we have to admit: there’s a reason they’re everywhere. Our little Jimny took us along the Pacific coast, down dirt roads, through tropical downpours and to plenty of places where turning around probably would have been the more sensible option.

But the drives themselves often became part of the adventure. Costa Rica is home to four species of monkeys, two species of sloths and more than 900 recorded bird species – and you don’t necessarily need to enter a national park to encounter them. We found ourselves pulling over for monkeys in the trees, sloths hiding in the canopy, colourful birds overhead, or simply because the road suddenly opened up to another incredible view.

Some of our favourite moments happened somewhere between A and B. Safe to say, we’d rent the Jimny again.

One of the things we loved most about Costa Rica was that every hike felt like an experience in itself.

The trail to Nauyaca Waterfalls wasn’t just about reaching one of the country’s most spectacular waterfalls. It was about everything that happened along the way.

Costa Rica’s mountainous landscape and tropical climate – some regions receive over 5,000 mm of rainfall annually – have created hundreds of breathtaking waterfalls. Yet it was often the smaller moments that caught our attention most: monkeys moving effortlessly through the canopy, leafcutter ants carrying fragments many times their own size, or a sloth hidden high in the canopy, spending almost its entire life in the trees and only climbing down about once a week.

Every trail feels alive. Costa Rica has a remarkable way of rewarding those who slow down and pay attention.

Some landscapes don’t quite look real!

The Pacific coastline of Costa Rica constantly surprised us with dramatic cliffs, untouched beaches and rainforest stretching right to the ocean. Add scarlet macaws crossing the sky and toucans hidden in the canopy, and it often felt as though nature had carefully composed every scene long before we arrived.

A few moments from a personal project that reminded us why we never travel without a camera.

Costa Rica moves at its own pace.
You notice it in the sloths, who spend most of their lives in the trees. You see it in the waves rolling endlessly toward the Pacific shoreline. And you feel it while watching tiny sea turtles begin a journey they’ll remember instinctively, but never consciously.
„Pura Vida“ isn’t simply something people say here. It’s reflected in the way life unfolds in Costs Rica. There never seemed to be a rush.

Maybe that’s what stayed with us most – not a single location, but the pace at which this country encourages you to experience it.
