M104 featured as NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day! 🌌

Congratulations to Engelbert Vollmer: His impressive image of the Sombrero Galaxy M104 has been selected by NASA as Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD). 👏

We are especially delighted that our Baader Planetarium LRGB filters were among the equipment used to create this remarkable image.

A fascinating view of one of the most iconic galaxies in the night sky, revealing impressive detail in M104’s prominent dust structure and extended halo.

A long-held dream becomes reality with a Baader observatory dome 🔭

For many years, Mehmet Ergün had dreamed of having his own permanently installed observatory at home. In 2024, the opportunity arose to acquire a pre-owned Baader dome in excellent condition – located around 500 km away.

Mehmet dismantled the dome himself, transported it to its new home by trailer and also planned and built the complete foundation and substructure together with his family.

Today, the dome stands in his own garden and provides a permanent home for his astronomical equipment. It allows him to make use of spontaneous observing opportunities without the need for repeated setup and dismantling – and has become the centerpiece of an observatory that was many years in the making.

We are very pleased to see one of our domes continue its story at a new location and become part of such a personal and professional astronomy project.

Another large-scale system taking shape inside our Telescope Integration Center 🔭

At the heart of this setup is a 10Micron AZ2500, carrying several optical systems for very different applications: a DeltaRho 350 f/3, a CDK14, and a TEC 140 configured for solar observation.

Combining multiple instruments on one high-precision platform requires much more than simply mounting the individual components. Mechanical integration, balancing, cable routing, power and data distribution, mount communication, instrument control and the interaction between all subsystems are carefully configured and tested before the system leaves our facilities.

This allows us to evaluate the complete observatory setup as one integrated system – under controlled conditions and before installation at its final site.

Different instruments. Different applications. One fully integrated observatory system 🌌🔭
