My favourite 5 dye plants to achieve pink!
This pink comes from Una, a plant I was introduced to by members of the Kogi community while hiking to Ciudad Perdida. Growing high in the Sierra Nevada, it isn’t easy to find, but it creates beautiful shades of pink and soft purple.
So far, I’ve been introduced to five different natural sources of these vibrant hues: cochineal in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, where I learned about traditional Zapotec natural dyeing; Palo de Brasil, which grows on the hills around Santa Marta; Chingiza, shared with me by a Wiwa Community in the Sierra Nevada; la teca, growing here at the Caribbean coast. and Una.
Every new plant reminds me how much there is still to learn from nature.
