🤎Cassler brown. This limited-edition HORADAM watercolour from our Retro range is a semi-transparent, warm brown shade.🤎
Like the original historical shade, it is produced from lignite (NBr8).
This colour is already known in the 16th century and widespread in the 17th to 19th centuries. It was a popular pigment until the 1960s. Since the 1970s it was replaced by more resistant, similarly glazing pigments

This pastel set is part of our annual retro-promotion 2026: the walnut-stained beech wood box with elegant brass fittings, leather grip and retro owl print contains two removable trays for safe storage and transport. Furthermore there is an additional compartment under the wooden trays for the included exclusive cloth with retro owl motif (only available in this set!!!) 🦉

Did you know?
With our AERO COLOR Professional Liners you can add details also to your watercolour sketches. The empty pens (available in 5 different line widths) can be easily filled and refilled with AERO COLOR Professional inks - 36 Standard colours, 9 Candy colours and 12 Total Cover colours.
In our shown sketch we've used an AERO COLOR Liner No.2 filled with SUPRA-white, opaque to add white highlights to the watercolour sketch.

Further uses for the AERO COLOR Liner:
• writing and signing artworks
• drawing and sketching in acrylic
• for mixed-media techniques

Discover the Schmincke retro watercolour set, ‘Jan Wellem’ from our annual promotion 2026.
The 6 HORADAM watercolour tubes (5 ml) are in a retro-style metal box with historical owl print (outside) and Jan Wellem print (inside). Jan Wellem lived from 1658 to 1716 and made Düsseldorf a cultural centre. He was known for his magnificent court and his promotion of art and culture which made him likely the inspiration for the original 1930s travel set. Further details about this set and Jan Wellem are also available on the Schmincke website.
