FAKT 027 — a lightweight rooftop extension in Berlin-Neukölln.
Five new homes were added to the existing structure through a cost-efficient constructive system, exploring how a critical rethinking of conventional standards can enable affordable rental housing in Berlin.
80–20: Each dwelling is conceived as a robust, standardized framework — including structure, services and essential finishes — while selected elements remain deliberately unfinished, allowing for individual or collective completion over time. By shifting part of the fit-out beyond initial construction, the project reduces upfront costs and rents while opening the architecture to appropriation, adaptability and long-term transformation by its residents.
