Lavia Lin Lavia is a Berlin-based painting & performance artist from Shanghai,China. Abstract musical paintings She studied art and philosophy at Bard College Berlin.

Lavia, born in 1995, came to Berlin in 2014 to pursue her studies in art. She is attracted by the city and its vibrant art scene featuring international artists. She started painting at 7 years old, as a child, she has shown sensitivity in colours and for her, colours have become a way of expressing herself. She sees colours in relation to emotions and melodies.
“I have always enjoyed the moment

when my brushes touch the canvas, when colours are flowing from the strokes of my hand. I never know what the painting will be like but I listen to my heart and let the colours flow across the canvas. It is the moment when I hear the melody in the colours and I move my brushes along with the rhythm.”

Close Your Eyes and See 🎨🎵
A little opening with tea 🍵
· Sunday, June 7th · 2–4pm.
My mini exhibition is now up at as part of the , curated by .korpela — and I wanted to share a little more about what’s inside.

Each painting in this selection begins with sound. A melody heard late at night, a song that wouldn’t leave, a moment recorded in the forest at dawn — bird songs, rainfall, the quiet sounds of nature that we so easily pass without noticing. Through color, line, and texture, I translate these sounds into visual form — not as illustrations, but as emotional echoes, traces of feeling left on canvas.
The works span a few years and many musical encounters — from Keith Jarrett and Tom Waits to Erroll Garner and the Modern Jazz Quartet. Each one asked me to listen differently. I hope they invite you to do the same.
What do you hear when you look? And what do you see when you listen — listen closely? 🌿

☀️ Come say hello on June 7th!
I’ll be there brewing some of my favourite teas in Gongfu Cha style — just art, tea, and good conversation. Sign up via the link in bio on Luma, or simply DM me so I know you’re coming. 🍵

A Soft Passage. ✨

Last week we had the pleasure of opening our exhibition at their warm new home — the beautiful Sicilian restaurant .

A Soft Passage brings together the works of Riikka Korpela .korpela and Lavia Lin in a celebration of the present moment:
fleeting, luminous, and worth lingering in.

Riikka’s work begins with observation and ends somewhere else entirely — transforming the familiar streets, shop windows and landscapes she encounters into dreamlike, vibrant worlds inhabited by creatures that feel both strange and strangely close.

Lavia’s paintings emerge from listening — from jazz improvisation, rhythmic gesture and melodic flows of colour that translate sound into something you can see and feel.

Together, their work traces a quiet passage — from the heard to the seen, from the ordinary to the luminous. The exhibition is an invitation to slow down, look closely, and pause in the quiet interval between one moment and the next. 💫

Come visit, enjoy a delicious meal prepared with love, and let the art be part of the experience. 🍝

And some wonderful news : the exhibition has been extended until 8. July ! 🎉
Join us for the finisage on 8 July with a small intimate concert- a last and beautiful chance to experience " A Soft Passage“ in full.

A heartfelt thank you to for so generously hosting our works, and warmest congratulations to the wonderful Marcella & Martin on the first anniversary of this beautiful gem. 🩵

See you soon.

Straight No Chaser
A painting that started out to be something else entirely , and found its own song along the way. Excited to share this one with you 🎨!

Yes, another Monk tune. Another Monk painting. I always come back to Thelonious Monk when I need something that’s challenging and fun in equal measure — his music doesn’t ask permission, it just arrives, stubborn and joyful and completely its own thing. This painting felt the same. I didn’t plan it, I didn’t control it. I just kept answering back until it said what it needed to say.
The chaos in the middle is the point. The red drip that reaches the floor is the point. Straight, no chaser is also an attitude — a willingness to follow the call without knowing the destination, to keep moving without softening it.

Come see this work along with other music-inspired paintings at ZENE ✨

We are so excited for the second edition of Sunday, May 17th at — and we would love to see you there. 💫
Two pairs of visual artists and musicians, two very different states of creation:
▪️The Prepared Dialogue
Music by .piano × Art by .studio
A work developed together over weeks — witness what they’ve been quietly building.
▪️The Improvised Encounter
Music by .pap.flute.art × Art by
They meet on stage for the first time. No rehearsal. No plan. Just presence.

Parallel/Play has received so much warmth and encouragement since we began, and we are deeply grateful. This project exists because we believe in the dialogue between visual art and music — and in creating space for that to happen live, in real time.

Jade Visions

Freshly painted, just in time for its first exhibition. Come see it in person at .workshops this Thursday alongside works by .korpela, and say hi 🎨🩵
Some paintings take time to find themselves. This one started as a question: how do you paint a friendship?
Not any friendship — the specific, rare kind where two people are so attuned that the music they make together couldn’t exist without both equally present. ✨
Bill Evans and Scott LaFaro had that. Evans floating, searching, luminous; LaFaro underneath, steady and warm, but never just accompanying. He listens so closely he finishes thoughts that haven’t been spoken yet.

Bill Evans has inspired a few introspective paintings of mine, he’s one of my favorite pianists🎹 but this one is special because painting dialogue is something else.
It means finding two visual languages that coexist without one swallowing the other. The real work was getting them to actually talk, to meet, cross over, exchange the lead.

Creative friendship is like that. It asks you to hold your own voice while staying completely open to someone else’s. To be fully yourself without compromising — because if it’s someone who truly understands the creative value you carry, what you build together can be something neither of you could have reached alone. 💫

If you want to go deeper into their story, check out Everybody Digs Bill Evans (2026), Grant Gee’s film about their friendship. 🎶🤗

In the Mood for Monk🎶🎨
Being productive while not painting the paintings I actually wanted to finish 😅
I have been wanting to work on pieces for the upcoming exhibition, but between the busy event weeks and a funding application, the brushes have been quieter than I’d like. So today I decided to warm up, and ended up starting a brand new painting and almost finishing a painting I’d been leaving behind. 😎

”Straight No Chaser” felt like exactly the right spirit. I always come back to Thelonious Monk when I need something that’s challenging and fun in equal measure — his music builds in layers and structures that feel almost painterly, and this one was no exception. It started with a different inspiration entirely, but today Monk called, and I answered.
Some songs just do that 🩵

What’s yours — the one you go back to when you need a push, a cheer-up, or just a good rush of inspiration? 💫

A Soft Passage ✦

There is a quiet interval between one moment and the next — a threshold where perception softens, time slows, and something beneath the surface becomes visible.

We are thrilled to invite you to the vernissage of " A Soft Passage“, a joint exhibition by Lavia Lin & Riikka Korpela .korpela
📅 7 May, 7pm 📍 workshops , Berlin

Two practices in dialogue — abstract painting rooted in sound and memory, and surreal digital imagery born from the streets of Berlin and beyond.
A Soft Passage is about the space in between: between a note and its echo, between the familiar and the dreamed, between looking and truly seeing. It is an exhibition that moves through sound and image, memory and presence — tracing the quiet moments we often pass through without noticing, the thresholds that hold us briefly before we move on.
Both artists work at the edges of perception: one translating music into colour and gesture, the other transforming the ordinary world into something luminous and strange. Together, their work asks: what do we carry with us as we pass from one moment into the next?
An evening to slow down, look closely, and find something you didn’t know you were looking for. 💫

Come as you are. Bring a friend. 🫧
