Lavia is a Berlin-based painting & performance artist from Shanghai,China. Abstract musical paintings She studied art and philosophy at Bard College Berlin.

Lavia, born in 1995, came to Berlin in 2014 to pursue her studies in art. She is attracted by the city and its vibrant art scene featuring international artists. She started painting at 7 years old, as a child, she has shown sensitivity in colours and for her, colours have become a way of expressing herself. She sees colours in relation to emotions and melodies.
“I have always enjoyed the moment when my brushes touch the canvas, when colours are flowing from the strokes of my hand. I never know what the painting will be like but I listen to my heart and let the colours flow across the canvas. It is the moment when I hear the melody in the colours and I move my brushes along with the rhythm.”

A beautiful surprise in the post 💿

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of creating the cover art for Accordi Solari, commissioned by my dear friend and brother Luca Benedetto. The result was a colorful, cosmic, playful, and ethereal piece, inspired by the music itself and the world it opens up. ✨

This painting has been waiting for me. When I saw the sunlight fall on it, I knew it was time to come back.☀️

It started with a thought about home, the home we grew up in, and the home we make for ourselves. The more I thought about it, the more I understood that home isn’t one place. It lives in layers. In memory, in light, in people we encounter, in the things we carry without noticing.

Still painting. Still finding out.

What kind of blue are you?

orange and blue 🧡💙 two colors that shouldn’t belong together, and yet they do, completely.

contrasting, complementary, inseparable. like two personalities living side by side, the quiet and the loud, the melancholy and the cheerful, the one who withdraws and the one who fills the room. 🫧

maybe that’s what makes blue so endlessly fascinating. it doesn’t exist alone. it reveals itself in relation to what surrounds it. 🩵

blue has many shades, many moods, many depths of emotion.

I’ve always been fascinated by its expressiveness: the way it listens, the way it speaks, the way it insists on having its own unique personality. 🩵

to paint in blue is to allow something to emerge that I didn’t always plan. it surprises me, every time.👩🏻‍🎨

Why Blue?

one of the first questions people ask me is: why blue?
in the way I dress, in the colors I choose for my work. for people who know me, and for those who don’t, their first impression of me is often blue. 🩵

I’ve been thinking about why, and the closest I can get is this: blue has never left. it stays. like a quiet, loyal friend, always there, with its gentle presence.

it holds something I can only describe as sweet sadness. not heaviness, but tenderness. a color that grounds me, that makes me feel most like myself. safe. gentle. held.

and then there’s its depth: the way blue has infinite shades, infinite moods. it can be the palest morning or the darkest ocean. it contains everything. 🦋🫧

Maggie Nelson opens Bluets with: “Suppose I were to begin by saying that I had fallen in love with a color.” as if falling under a spell — what begins as an appreciation of a color turns serious, deeply personal, and becomes something alive. for me, blue is much more than a color.

Why Blue? Because blue is where I live 🫐 (literally)

Dance in Colors 🎨 🌿✨

Where movement meets paint, and nature becomes your muse.

This summer, we’re taking it outside. We’ll gather in the open air of Treptower Park — letting the colors, sounds, and textures of the natural world move through us, onto our bodies, and onto the canvas.

Guided by Camila La Rotta Laura Camila La Rotta (Biodanza facilitator) and Lavia Lin (artist) Lavia Lin , this afternoon weaves together Biodanza and intuitive painting to awaken your senses, reconnect you with your body, and bring our collective colors to life.

No experience needed. Just an open heart and bare feet welcome 🌱
