Sansevieria II
Oil on canvas, 20 × 20 cm

This temporary return to the figurative has been unexpectedly new and exciting, giving me some really helpful insights into colour, value and perception.

In this black and white version, the white and yellow leaves sit on the same value on the scale, even though they are very different colours. The photo actually makes them look almost identical in brightness — something you can only really notice when taking colour out of the equation.

I’ll be sharing the original in colour soon 🫶
