10 years of CROSS - Surprise usually starts as a problem. A constraint, a technical necessity, something nobody wanted.

We’ve learned to look at those moments twice – because that’s where the unexpected value tends to hide. A structural decision becomes a building’s identity. A limitation becomes the reason a place works. In the Netherlands we’re a bit more German. In Germany a bit more Dutch. Either way: we take nothing for granted.

10 years of CROSS - Curiosity as a guiding principle

We celebrate clients who come to us with unconventional questions and challenge us to explore new paths. This was the case with this project for EnBW in Karlsruhe. To make the design concept accessible and intuitive, we developed a user journey. This allowed us to illustrate how different employees experience the building during a workday and where they might encounter one another. In this way, the design was directly linked to the future employees’ own experiences.

Passion is not visible in the render but in the process behind it.

The office tower MarkOne in Düsseldorf demanded more iterations than expected, yet nobody stepped back. We kept refining, testing and questioning the design long after it would have been “good enough”.

Because passion shows itself in persistence, not aesthetics.

We are an international team that draws a clear advantage from our differences. Whether it’s nationality, age, background or experience: each and every one of us helps shape CROSS as an architectural firm.

We are united by a passion for architecture and the conviction that good design makes an essential contribution to strengthening and improving the way communities live together.

Diversity is our strength. On a personal level, but also in the creation of visionary, pragmatic architecture.

Beyond that, it’s the shared experiences that define us: team events, Friday drinks, CROSStalks, carnival costumes, rooftop gardening, Mud Masters... We take on every challenge.

10 Years of CROSS Architecture!

This year, we proudly celebrate 10 years of CROSS Architecture.

Founded in 2016 in Aachen and soon after expanded to Amsterdam, CROSS has grown into a German-Dutch studio shaped by curiosity, collaboration and a constant drive to explore new possibilities.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll share reflections on the ideas and mindset that have defined our work, from urban visions to precise architectural details.

Here’s to ten years of collaboration, growth, and design excellence — and to the many challenges and opportunities still ahead.
