Urban Design and Landscape
The winning proposal presents a strong and memorable urban composition that successfully adapts to both competition sites despite their differing topographies. The low, two-storey building, articulated through a system of atria and semi-atria, creates a welcoming environment with a clear human scale. The varied character of the atria provides excellent daylight and strengthens the relationship between interior and exterior spaces, while outdoor areas are conceived as an integral part of care, helping residents build a meaningful connection with their new home.
Architectural Design
The jury particularly appreciated the clarity of the organisational concept and its convincing response to the competition brief through the sequence of room – household – community. The building is organised into ten households grouped within three communities, creating an environment that balances privacy with shared living. Private balconies and planted terraces allow residents to enjoy daily contact with nature while ensuring comfort, safety, and appropriate supervision.
A clear network of interconnected spaces supports both residents and staff through efficient circulation and practical operational solutions, including gravity-based waste and laundry chutes. The modular system of prefabricated solid timber panels further enhances the project's flexibility and adaptability.
Technical Solution, Sustainability, and Economy
The two-storey concept requires some service functions to be located in a partial basement, helping preserve the quality of the outdoor environment and minimise service areas on the site. Overall, the jury recognised the efficient low-rise layout as a sustainable, economical, and environmentally responsible solution.
