[Re]connect with Akamas | 12-18 September 2025
๐ฟ J&G Engineering & Architecture Ltd, part of the project team, carried out a series of outreach and field activities in Cyprus in September, strengthening collaboration between research, local communities, and educational institutions in the Akamas region.
๐ค During the visit, the team met with Rebecca Bang Jensen, Masterโs student from the Kรธbenhavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, exchanging insights on landscape policies and research practices in Cyprus, Denmark, and Europe. Life Cycle Assessment ( ) methods and practices were presented in relation to landscape evaluation and sustainable planning.
๐ Field visits took place in the Akamas protected area and surrounding villages, where the team engaged with local residents and tourists, introducing the TOPIO project and encouraging participation in the upcoming questionnaires.
๐ As part of the engagement actions, the team visited the Cyprus University of Technology, presenting the TOPIO project to the academic community and discussing environmental challenges in the Akamas region and project objectives with the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management and Mr. Theocharous. Also visited The International School Of Paphos, an institution actively promoting environmental education and awareness, where students regularly explore Akamas and learn about the importance of protected areas, forests, and biodiversity conservation. The TOPIO project was introduced to the schoolโs principal, Mr. Artemis, strengthening links between education and landscape stewardship.
๐ฑ These activities reinforced TOPIOโs mission to combine scientific research, community engagement, and education in support of resilient and sustainable landscapes.
