I have always believed that some of the toughest bike riders in Cameroon come from the Northwest and Southwest Regions.
And there is a reason for that.
Riding in these regions is not always about getting on a bike and twisting the throttle. The terrain itself is a teacher. We have steep hills, sharp bends, rough roads, slippery surfaces and, during the rainy season, roads that can become extremely challenging.
A rider here has to understand how to control the bike going uphill, manage speed going downhill, balance properly on slippery roads and react quickly when the road conditions suddenly change.
The rainy season is a completely different game. Mud, water, potholes and steep slopes demand experience, confidence, strength and serious concentration.
That is why many riders from the Northwest and Southwest develop a level of road experience that comes from years of dealing with difficult terrain.
It is not just about riding a bike.
It is about understanding the road, understanding the machine and knowing how to stay in control when the conditions are against you.
If you can confidently ride through some of the hills and slippery roads in the Northwest and Southwest during heavy rain, you have definitely earned your stripes as a rider.
The road is the training ground. The terrain builds the experience.
