07BEACH’s design for House in Kyoto reimagines urban domestic life by placing a double-height indoor garden at the structural and emotional heart of the home. Designed for a family with young children, the residence prioritizes continuous visual contact and open circulation around a central indoor tree, creating a serene, light-filled haven within a dense neighborhood.

Moving through the residence evokes an immediate sense of warmth and grounded presence. The central tree acts as a living focal point, visible from nearly every room, while large overhead skylights funnel soft, changing daylight down through the wooden framework. The extensive use of warm, unpainted timber surfaces softens ambient sound, creating a quiet acoustic backdrop for daily life. By blending the soothing presence of indoor nature with clear sightlines across living areas, the space fosters feelings of togetherness, emotional safety, and peaceful daily routines.

Navigating the resort creates a rhythmic, sensory dialogue between enclosure and vast mountain vistas.
