Etched Salmon Peony = perfection 🌸

I only read and heard incredible things about this variety, but it wasn’t until one of my plants gave me blooms that I finally understood. Etched Salmon met all my expectations and more.

Leave her on the plant? Stunning. Cut flowers? Stunning.

Peonies. I will never not grow them. 🤎

They’re one of those flowers that are so worth the wait. Hardy, long-lived, low maintenance once established, and they just get better and better every year. Plant them once and you can enjoy those big, fluffy blooms for decades.

There’s something about walking out into the garden and seeing a giant peony clump covered in blooms that gets me every time. Year after year. 🌸

I didn’t know what a peony was when I moved to the farm at 19. I had definitely seen one before, but the name and appearance were never connected in my mind nor something I ogled over in childhood.

My love for peonies started when I seen them in bloom in the backyard of our farm. My late mother in law planted them, and if my memory is correct, they came from her aunt (or great aunt). I can confidently guess those peony plants are well over 50 years old now, and they were my catalyst to my obsession for them now.

Those old peony bushes have been divided and dispersed throughout the farm over the last 10 years. They’ve been resilient in transplanting and begin to thrive quickly once their roots are established. They keep on giving. Which makes me love them even more. They’re romantic in their appearance, but also in their existence 🤎

Simple. Elegant.
Easy to grow. Hardy in cold winters (we are zone 3).
And return year after year. Decade after decade.

It’s not always like this, but when it is I’m so grateful for these rows of bales 🤣

Every year the tractor cab looks different, this year there’s been a lot of reading or music. We make it work, and when it doesn’t work in the cab we make it work out of the cab 🤷🏻‍♀️

Coral Sunset and Coral Charm — both equally beautiful in their own way, on their plant or as cut flowers!

These are prairie hardy (thrive in my zone 3 garden). I’ve decided if I’m wintering in -40 out here, you bet I’m growing the most stunning perennials. And the fact that they tolerate our deep freeze makes it even better 🤎
