An update from our Fort Chipewyan 6 Bay Garage and Animal Control Facility project! 🚧

Concrete is being batched right on site with the help of Willy’s Construction Ltd., while Rocky Johnson Contracting Inc. is handling the placing and finishing.

3 days. 255 m³ of concrete. 0.76 m³ at a time. 💪

It’s a steady process that takes careful coordination, teamwork, and persistence to keep the pour moving and get the job done. A big thank you to everyone involved for keeping things moving forward in Fort Chipewyan!

NIC has rolled into Qikiqtarjuaq, Nunavut, where our team is building new access ramps at the airport terminal.

Materials for the new Qikiqtarjuaq Airport Terminal Building access ramp are loaded and on the move. With a short Northern construction window, every shipment matters, and careful coordination is essential to keeping the project moving forward. A key priority from the start was hiring locally. Today, the crew is made up of 50% local workers and 50% seasoned NIC veterans. It’s a great mix of local knowledge, hands-on experience, and teamwork coming together to keep the project moving.

In this video, NIC’s Nattilik Heritage Centre Expansion in Gjoa Haven, Nunavut, is proudly highlighted. We are honoured to have served as the general contractor for this significant project.

The Nattilik Heritage Centre is an important cultural and community hub dedicated to preserving and sharing the history, language, traditions, arts, and stories of the Nattilik Inuit.

The expansion added approximately 500 square metres of exhibition and community-use space, more than doubling the Centre’s original size. The expanded facility provides additional space for cultural programming and will help house and interpret important artifacts associated with the Franklin Expedition, while continuing to support the sharing of Inuit knowledge, language, and traditions for future generations.

NIC is proud to have played a role in bringing this meaningful project to life and to have contributed to a facility that celebrates Northern culture, strengthens community connections, and preserves an important part of Gjoa Haven’s heritage.

NIC’s newest project in Gjoa Haven, Nunavut!

The foundations are in place, the modular sections have arrived by sealift, and our team is getting ready to bring together four new Arctic Modular Homes.

With 10 modular sections, 4 building sites, remote logistics, heavy equipment, and Arctic conditions to coordinate, careful planning and Northern construction experience are essential to keeping the project moving forward.

Thank you to Arctic Modular Homes, the Nunavut Housing Corporation, our local partners, and everyone working behind the scenes to help bring these new homes to Gjoa Haven.

Project Award: Hay River Outdoor Rinks

Work is now underway on NIC’s latest project in Hay River. In partnership with Carter Industries, our team will be constructing two new outdoor hockey rinks for the Town of Hay River. These new rinks will provide additional spaces for residents of all ages to get active, enjoy the outdoors, and come together through one of the North’s favourite sports. Northern Industrial Construction Ltd. is proud to continue working alongside our partners to deliver infrastructure that supports recreation and strengthens northern communities.

NIC’s Fort Good Hope Construction Centre project officially celebrated its Grand Opening on August 28th, marking a proud milestone for the community and for everyone who contributed to bringing this vision to life.

Northern Industrial Construction Ltd. is honoured to have led the construction of this important facility. Building in the North comes with unique challenges — from complex logistics and unpredictable weather to the realities of working in a remote community — but through collaboration with local leadership, partners, and everyone involved, we successfully brought the project to completion.

More than a new building, the Fort Good Hope Construction Centre represents an investment in local skills, trades training, employment, and community-led construction capacity. It was created to help empower local workers, strengthen economic independence, and build the capacity needed to support Fort Good Hope’s growth for years to come.

The Centre has begun work on its first modular home, shown in the interior photos — a tangible example of exactly what this facility was built to support: homes built in the community, for the community. This Grand Opening represents more than the completion of a construction project. It marks the beginning of new opportunities, stronger local capacity, and an exciting new chapter for Fort Good Hope. NIC is proud to have played a part in bringing this vision to life, and we look forward to seeing what the community builds from here.

Breaking Ground in Hay River! 🏗️🏠

Northern Industrial Construction Ltd. is proud to mark the official start of construction on the new 30-unit Singles Multi-Unit Residential Building in Hay River.

NIC is leading the design-build team alongside Taylor Architecture Group to deliver a three-storey modular building featuring 21 self-contained studio units and nine wheelchair-accessible units. The project is designed with energy efficiency, climate resilience, accessibility, and community safety in mind. The groundbreaking represents an important milestone as we move from planning into construction and work toward delivering safe, modern, and durable homes for Hay River residents.

We’re proud to partner with Housing NWT on another project that strengthens northern communities and helps create more housing for Northerners with completion anticipated for Winter 2028. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the groundbreaking and to all the teams and partners helping bring this project to life!

Before August comes to an end, we’re proud to highlight NIC’s sponsorship of public, teen, and family swim sessions at the Inuvik Pool throughout June, July, and August. 🏊🏻‍♀️🌞

Supporting initiatives that promote health, recreation, and community connection is an important part of NIC’s commitment to the communities where we live and work. Last month, we were honoured to celebrate this important milestone at the grand opening of the Łutsël K’é 10-Unit Residential Housing Project. NIC is proud to have served as the general contractor and to have contributed to a project that will support the community for years to come.

The dedication, collaboration, and perseverance of everyone involved brought this project to a successful completion. Thank you to all our partners, team members, and community representatives who helped make it possible.

Once again, congratulations to the Łutsël K’é Dene First Nation on this remarkable milestone and the completion of 10 new housing units for the community!
