54th street will be closed on October 10th for a crane lift.

J&R Mechanical has scheduled a crane lift of air handling units at 5004 54 Street from October 10 to 12, 2026. To accommodate the work, 54 Street between 50 Avenue and 50A Avenue will be closed during operations from 7:00 a.m. on October 10 through 5:00 p.m. on October 12.

For public safety, appropriate signage and barricades will be in place throughout the work. Please stay clear of the active work area, do not enter fenced or restricted areas, and follow all directions from site personnel. Traffic detour will be needed, thus minor disriptions may occur.

It’s hard to believe, but J&R Mechanical is celebrating 50 years in business!

Apparently working construction in Yellowknife wasn’t dirty enough for these guys…

A few of the J&R crew have volunteered to spend their day running through mud, crawling over obstacles and generally making fools of themselves at the 2026 CIBC Mud Run.

Naturally, we fully support this kind of poor decision-making.

Help TEAM J&R raise some money for a great cause — and give the boys a little extra motivation to get filthy.

We are seeking a motivated, safety-focused Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our growing team.
Position Summary
As a Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic, you will install, fabricate, modify, and commission commercial HVAC duct systems and related components on a wide variety of mechanical construction projects. Working alongside our plumbing and heating teams, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality installations safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
• Install commercial HVAC ductwork, fittings, and accessories.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
• Lay out duct systems according to project plans.
• Install dampers, VAV boxes, diffusers, grilles, fire dampers, and related equipment.
• Perform field fabrication and modifications as required.
• Coordinate work with other trades and project supervisors.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite.
• Follow all company safety policies and territorial regulations.
• Mentor apprentices and promote quality workmanship.
Qualifications
• Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic Certification (Red Seal preferred).
• Valid driver's licence.
• Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings.
• Experience with commercial mechanical construction.
• Strong understanding of HVAC systems and sheet metal installation practices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Positive attitude and commitment to quality workmanship.
Assets
• Experience working on commercial or industrial projects.
• Experience with duct fabrication and layout.
• Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform, WHMIS, CSTS, or other safety certifications.
• Experience working in northern or remote communities.
