🌳 Your tree’s first-winter protection starts in October not January.

Even after the leaves fall, roots can continue absorbing moisture until the ground freezes. Newly planted trees, shrubs and evergreens are especially vulnerable when they enter a Winnipeg winter with dry soil.

Check the soil regularly and water slowly around the root zone on above freezing days. Avoid watering if the ground is already saturated.
